Eleven was raised in Hawkins Lab, never once had she ever been outside of the laboratory. Never had she known the world outside. Eleven was by far Dr. Brenner’s most prized experiment. Her mind was more powerful than all the others.
Lucas has to power to conjure Blades/Rocks with his mind that he can throw with absolute accuracy. Lucas had been taken from his family when he was very young so he just barely remembers them.
Dustin was found at a young age wandering alone in the woods near the lab. Dustin had a Sonic Scream, his voice was powerful enough to be heard from miles away and could shatter glass and even a person's eardrum.
Mike was taken from the hospital after his parents thought his powers were a disease. Mike’s powers allowed him to bend Metal, this lead the others (mostly Dustin) into calling him “Magneto Mike”
Will was stolen from the hospital just hours after his birth, and his mother refused to believe the lie that he was dead. Will could control Electrical Currents, which Dr. Brenner found a weak power, as result Will was mistreated a lot. But the others protect him fiercely.
Maxine was the newest recruit, she was found years after the others after she tried running away from her step-family. Max had the power of pyrokinesis, her fire manipulation powers, perfectly match up with her fiery personality.

Steve, Hopper, and Jonathan are all assigned to watch over and escort the group throughout the mission. Steve and Jonathan were pretty much forcefully enlisted into helping and neither can escape it while Hopper is there on duty. None of them knows the true danger they’re leading the poor kids into.
Steve introduces himself to the group like, “Now, I’m here to watch over you little shitheads, you may not like it but frankly, neither do I”... but in the end, he adopts all of them and takes them away from Dr. Brenner.
Jonathan isn’t at all happy with being there but they did offer to pay him more than his mother’s entire salary. He’ll only do this once and then never again. During his time escorting the team, Jonathan gains a shadow, a boy who can control electricity. Will stayed mostly by his side, drawn to the boy for some reason he can’t explain. While Jonathan thinks about how the boys remind him of his dead brother.
Hopper showed up to the job, drunk and without a single care in the world. At first, the kids hate him because his rude behavior reminds them all of “Papa” but over time, when he’s sober, Hopper begins to grow on them all, and reverse. It was Hopper than uncovered the truth of their mission, and how the kids were being treated. And like Hell would he allow anyone to take them away.

Meanwhile, back in Hawkins, Nancy Wheeler and Joyce Byers are working together to reveal the truth about Hawkins Lab. Which they both believe is responsible for the multiple power outages, unexplainable deaths, and missing children.
Such as Joyce’s newborn son and Nancy’s younger brother. Whom neither has seen in years.
