Mickey and Company

Lot’s of concept art for what was planned for Disney Infinity 3.0 have been leaking lately. It includes a Moana Play Set, and a Maui figure, a figure of Hera from Star Wars Rebels, Spider-Gwen, Peter Pan, and Doctor Strange. It really does bring a tear to my eye, especially the figures of Moana and Spider-Gwen, I realllllly wanted those characters to be in Infinity. It’s a real shame Infinity got cancelled as it seems the series would have really picked up by 2016/2017 with highly requested characters and a very tantalizing crossover story in the planned 4.0.

Yesterday Disney made the very sad and shocking announcement that Disney Infinity has been cancelled and that the studio behind it, Avalanche Software (where I had my first Disney job as a concept art intern in 2013), is being shut down. It was an incredible honor and pleasure to be part of such an awesome project and to work with such inspiring artists.  I’m deeply saddened by the fact that so many of the wonderful friends I made there are now without jobs, and the studio where I started my Disney career no longer exists.  So today I’d like to share just a few of my favorite concept art pieces from my time at Avalanche, in memory of the wonderful times I had there.  My heart goes out to those who have been affected by this decision and I wish you all the best in your efforts moving forward.

Bring back Infinity! It’s supposed to be INFINITE!

You guys know I don’t blog non-art stuff, but this is important. The race is VERY tight between Darkwing Duck and Mabel for the next Disney Infinity voter’s choice figure.

In light of some OUTRAGEOUS claims made by Gravity Falls fans that Darkwing is lame and not popular enough to deserve figure status, I say STAY IN YOUR LANE, kids, cuz I’m summoning my not-insignificant follower count to join Team DARKWING!

I love Mabel as much as any GF fan, but she needs to be a twin pack with Dipper. Darkwing Duck is Disney’s duck superhero. Along with DuckTales, DWD ushered in the new Golden Age of Disney Afternoon cartoons in the early 90’s. It’s no less a great cartoon with great characters just cuz it’s 25 years old. James & my con tables are a magnet for Disney Afternoon fans who are BEGGING for new merch from Disney. He absolutely deserves a place in Disney Infinity’s lineup and would be an amazing fun character to play.

So click the link above and vote DARKWING DUCK! Gosalyn knows you’ll do the right thing and vote for her dad. If not, she and her hockey stick will be very disappointed in you.

So yes, you may have noticed that the poll has been stuck at 46% Darkwing, 50% Mabel for several days. These are not accurate results. In light of certain fandoms exhorting fans to cheat and ballot-stuff with scripts, Disney have blocked results from being publicly displayed. Apparently, Disney ARE screening the votes and have accurate data on exactly which character is winning, but they are electing not to release that information publicly at this time.

Darkwing fans, show Disney we can vote honestly with our numbers alone. Drop in every day to the link above and cast a vote for Darkwing Duck. If Disney are enacting a script that only allows one vote per IP, then fine, your work is done.

Disney Infinity - Donald Duck

Before I moved to California to start working for Imagineering, I was an intern in the concept art department at Disney Interactive in Salt Lake City.  There I had the amazing opportunity to work on Disney Infinity 2.0, doing concept art for a number of the character figures.  We just recently got the green light to share some of these concepts online, so here are some of the pieces I did for the Donald Duck toy!
