My latest piece is based on the Glass Animals song “Agnes,” showing a physical representation of what heartbreak feels like. The piece itself has no correct orientation representing how it feels when your body becomes numb and goes into survival mode. Nothing feels right, the world is upside down and chaotic. The figures slowly fall deeper and deeper into the insanity of the background.
I went to see Bodies⁵ at Abend Gallery in Denver, and it really stood out how each artist cultivates a unique surface quality. When viewing traditional art (in person especially) it’s wonderful to be absorbed by the marks of the artist as much as by the image that those marks create. Thick impasto paint is one way to create interesting surface quality, but there are nearly infinite options.
Side note: I’m going to bring several 5x7ish pieces to Illuxcon in October, in addition to larger paintings. Prices will range from $175+ for small work. Hope to see some of you there, but email me if you can’t make it and are interested in a painting.

This has been my first foray into colour work. After doing the initial drawing, I decided to use ink and a brush to colour the sunflowers, and I’m stoked with how it turned out and the textured effect the ink has given the sunflowers.
