hello! could you tell me please why you hate rb leipzig too? I'm just curious about other opinions and I want to understand why this club is so bad
hi anon!! so please feel free to check out my “red bull discourse” tag where i’ve reiterated a bunch of my opinions/reasons – this post in particular hits really close to the feelings from a fan scene perspective of why exactly fan organizations in germany really object to it (it’s bayern’s fan collective Club Nr. 12′s official statement regarding them and our stance, and is very well-written).
i’m just going to highlight a couple reasons really quickly, and if you have any questions on why things are “problems” because i recognize that the bundesliga has a much different culture than many leagues, so people not as intimately familiar with our culture as a league might not understand exactly WHAT the problem is, feel free to ask more!!
- they bought up several traditional clubs in leipzig and rebranded them for the purpose of advertisement
- within that respect, the bundesliga bylaws specifically forbid clubs from having logos or names which are for advertisement purposes (this is something they’ve gotten around on a technicality only, but shows clear disrespect for the league)
- in addition to bylaws they get around on a technicality – they’ve built their club in such a way that the 50+1 rule has no direct effect on them (since they vetted their 17 voting members so thoroughly the only people with voting rights are 100% on the advertising company’s “side” so to speak in all ventures and no one can gain voting rights without adhering solely to RedBull’s interests)
- this also means that their (minimal, because of the aforementioned destroyed traditional clubs and THEIR fan cultures) fan scene has no tangible contact or say in their club operation, which gives fan rights throughout the WHOLE league less power and weight for fan interests
- they bought up a traditional club (and destroyed it entirely) to get its starting rights, meaning they started play in the 5th league instead of 9th where they should have
- they JUST did the same thing with their women’s team, who will now also be starting play next season in a higher league than they should per-bylaws
- they have no purpose at all other than as an advertising venture – and they do not have respect for traditional football, fans and our culture in the country, or our league (sort of reiterated above)
- their level of disrespect is now making many people re-evaluate our league’s bylaws, which have helped protect traditional football culture and particularly fan interests in a way which is not done in the other “major” leagues in europe, which means that their presence in our league is fundamentally threatening many of the principles our league is founded on that we (as fans) really want to protect, even as football develops into more and more of a capitalistic venture
that’s a very brief summary, but again i’d very happily flesh out anything you want more explanation to, and hopefully those things help you out a bit (and please do read the club nr. 12 statement – it’s really good)!! :)
