Help with TTRPG recs pls.
I'm soliciting suggestions for a 10-15 minute TTRPG that I can run repeatedly in a single hour-long session with a range of results for a group of local artists (many of whom are in the theatre scene so I anticipate some familiarity with performance/improv/theatre warm-up exercises) with no prior experience of RPGs or even really with board games.
They're a wide range of ages and disciplines (though like I said, mostly small theatre background) and I'd be running at a table for their Christmas party where they've invited people to offer table events.
People will probably be wandering up to watch, and those who play maybe only loosely know each other – bonus if the game can accommodate people dropping in once they've watched for a couple minutes and suddenly found themselves invested.
They've provided a supportive space for me to connect to my arts scene over the last few months, so I'd like to demonstrate what the hell this "indie ttrpg" thing I've been going on about has to offer.
All suggestions welcome, though I expect this will be the perfect spot for some one page rpgs from itch to shine!
Look out for these creachers in future Vigil productions
Which of these are monsters we'd have to fight, and which ones are just lil guys who hang around with Brier?
Which alchemist is winning GBBO?
Maria Hebrea. Literally invented the Bain Marie.
Less important question: which alchemist is snapping and murdering Paul Hollywood first?
Paracelsus was infamously fighty and foul mouthed. He would call Paul Hollywood a shit for brains who doesn't understand good food.
In your benevolence,
hear the Rebel's plea that you confirm our suspicions.
The series finale of I Need A Miracle is out now. Search for I Need A Miracle in podcast apps or head to foggyoutline.com/ineedamiracle for all the ways to listen.
Starring Patrick McKenzie as Arx, the Rebel
It's finale time! I've had months to prepare and I am not prepared! It's all out! You can listen to it all even if you're not on Apollo Plus! I will process and communicate my feelings properly at a later time!!
200 Word RPGs 2024
Each November, some people try to write a novel. Others would prefer to do as little writing as possible. For those who wish to challenge their ability to not write, we offer this alternative: producing a complete, playable roleplaying game in two hundred words or fewer.
This is the submission thread for the 2024 event, running from November 1st, 2024 through November 30th, 2024. Submission guidelines can be found in this blog's pinned post, here.
When All You Have is a Gun Everything Looks [Verb]able
Requires several players and a GM
Players:
Before the GM tells you what the plot/tone/setting/etc of the game is going to be, make the most Rule of Cool DeviantArt-OC-ass character you can think of and give them a revolver with six chambers. They should be named something like Saint Vermillion Dragongod or some dope shit like that.
Load this revolver with six actions, things like “kill someone” or “schmooze” or “teleport behind ‘em.” Besides moving around, talking, and breathing, these are the ONLY actions you can take, and you can only take them in the order they fill the chambers. When you’ve taken all six actions, you can reload your actions in any order you’d like, but you CANNOT change the actions themselves.
Do not coordinate your action choices with other players.
GM:
Once everyone has made their characters, throw them into a heist or a dungeon crawl or whatever you think will be funny. Their specific actions always succeed, but they can do literally nothing but those things in that order. If no one can do anything, you all lose and a big snake eats the sun or something. Rinse and repeat.
Good fucking luck.
I think this might actually be the funniest party-game heist caper RPG I've seen since Honey Heist. Bravo.
She’s so good at this I forget she is talking to herself.

I’ve been relistening to Ancillary Justice again… here’s one of my favorite scenes!!
hey @re-dracula
what do you expect me to do for six months???
Check out some other audio dramas! @innbetween (fantasy-adventure), @shelterwoodpod (suburban horror), @whatwillbehere (sci-fi), @camlannpod (fantasy), and @sditepod (horror anthology) are shows made by members of our team. Tal has more audio drama recs here! If you want more vampires, check out @knovesstorytelling's Murray Mysteries or @theholmwoodfoundation's pilot!
Check out some other great stories! Fans of Re: Dracula will like @see-arcane's novella The Vampyres, @stjohnstarling's What Manner of Man, or @drchucktingle's Bury Your Gays!
And lastly, our adaptation of Carmilla starts releasing to patrons next week, and will release on our main feed Feb 14!
Audio Drama Sunday is perfectly paced
My favourite roleplaying game! Naomi Clarke, occasional guest on @merelyroleplayers! Nathan Blades, star of @inyourbenevolence episode 8! Kieron Gillen from comics! Grant Howitt who wrote the game! This was going to be a blast even before you factor in @maddyisabstract and Cai Gwilym Pritchard in the production team. 'Going to a fucked up wedding' is such a great campaign frame for Heart, I'm incensed I didn't think of it. I've always found Heart a pacey rollercoaster of a game and the editing preserves that feel, without me losing the thread of what's going on. All the characters are so distinctive and odd right from the start. Thank you, everyone who threw money at Dagger in the Heart and made this happen.
Farewell to the Drac polycule for another year. Get some rest, friend Jonathan.
I was reading along in the Dracula Daily book this year, and on paper, the climactic scene is brisk – it goes by in a flash, it's almost over too fast. @re-dracula paces it beautifully, giving it the time for each heroic act and definitive blow to land in the listener's heart.
And new from me and @foggyoutline this week:
The penultimate episode of season 1, which is about the mortifying ordeal of being known.
We've had a run of plotty (as much as any episode of I Need A Miracle can be called 'plotty') or worldbuildy episodes, and the season finale needs to have a certain amount of narrative drive to make it a satisfying point to end on. So this episode is a pause. An in-breath before the top of the coaster. It's pure character in a way the show's premise really allows to sing. (Now's a great time to catch up on the season so far before the finale!)
Audiodrama Sunday! The Days May be Dark but the horror is…IDK darker but in a gayer way?
What has Lou been listening to recently which might distract you from thinking about The Situation?
Book of Constellations (@bookofconstellations) - Beautiful series full of hope about an alien on a road trip through America. Keith's writing is always deep, mature and full of kindness.
Woodbine - Look, they had me at the lesbian vampire detectives. And it's the Parkdale Haunt team so you KNOW it's gonna be great.
Amelia Project (@ameliapodcast)- Amelia's special brand of poignant comedy should help cheer you up. Some delightfully funny episodes recently. Loved Maty's debut as a small child of Hamelin and best boy Rhys being Valleys As All Fuck.
Poe: Evermore - OK actually this one is very dark but there is truly some quality acting in this and the writing is rich and gorgeous. Retelling of classic Poe stories within the setting of his life. I thought Vic was very good in Chapter 4 and Tanja in everything she's in especially the very sad bit and don't ask me about Harlan's character but I am listening very respectfully to both him and Giancarlo Herrera anyway moving swiftly on to
Professor Chronomier - The newest and final season of my favourite time travelling Professor is out, I will be normal I promise (I will not be normal TIME VILLAIN TEAMUP TIME VILLAIN TEAMUP)
Otherwise I have also been filling in more of the recommended listening, and binged Archive 81, Limetown and the Black Tapes so I am no longer an ignoramus about those ones.
Happy listening, love you all, this too shall pass
Happy Audio Drama Sunday y'all. I hope you've all been taking care of yourselves. ♥️
@storiesfromylelmore Episode 207 - Problem Child: another fantastic episode. It was a tough journey that Rion had to go on, to face everything that happened in response to how the adults in his school were treating him. It was a particularly relevant message for this week: No back, only forward, only through. He came out the other side though, ready to ask for the support he needed instead of cutting that part of himself away. He also ASKED for a hug!! His mom's reaction afterwards was the cherry on top. You go Rion's mom!!
@kingmakerpod Chapter Twenty-Three - The Road to Bad Spukberg: Omg the bisexual tension between Colette and the siblings was just immaculate. She had no idea what to do with herself! Such a fun episode!
@innbetween Season 1-Season 4: While I didn't get too much house cleaning done this week (thanks Fall colds and unexpected medical emergencies), I still polished off the first four seasons of Inn Between! I absolutely love how the story is told through the moments of rest and connection between each step of the adventure, rather than the adventure itself. It's also so clever to switch up the group we're following every couple of seasons, to explore new dynamics and different types of growth. I grew so attached to the Gang, and then the Crew, so I can't wait to hear who we get next!
Audio Drama Sunday - 10th November ✨
I found time to listen to a variety of shows this week and enjoyed them so much!!
🌲 @hellofromthehallowoods (172) AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! So many character returns this week!!! I don’t want to ruin the wonderful surprise by saying names but !!!! !!! !!!!!!!! We are SO BACK BABY. Also it was so interesting to more of an insight into how The Count’s powers work! … Does the Countess have this too??
🧳 Travelling Light @monstrousproductions (40) ohhh this season finale delivered everything I could have wanted 😭 I adored the Traveller / Óli reunion and the fact that they’re now going to travel together as I was so worried this was going to be goodbye and I don’t think my heart could have handled it. As an owner of green cord dungarees, let me tell you, I am feeling so smug in my fashion choices right now hehe. What a lovely farewell to the Tola and S1 - I can’t wait for more ❤️
🎙️WTNV (257) Such a fun episode, I always love hanging out with the men who are neither short nor tall. I also loved the return of the of the Kia Sportage joke - had to explain to my friends in a quiet cinema why I was giggling so much at the pre-film trailers when they were advertised the other week.
🧋@hinaypod (22-23) Damn, what a story. I didn’t think that the Elders had truly been at war but it certainly seems that way!! Turning everyone you know into a puppet except your girl crush is wild behaviour 😭😂
🥾 @doyoucopypod (205-207) ooooof not the confessions of love right before a cave collapse - yikes. And Blair and Sarah never got to work it out ☹️
🍾 @ameliapodcast (33) Alvina backstory!!!!! I truly love her. I am Amelia, I see an insane woman and I just have to have her on the team. Every scene they’re in together makes me so happy and I kind of love that they’re in a cellar getting drunk while the Interviewer is in the air in a plane full of bugs.
🌨️ @thewhitevault (12) This show continues to be SO good. I felt something off about the new Iffie immediately. Just thinking about it sends a shiver down my spine. Who/what is she??
🎃 Waiting For October by @monkeymanproductions (Prologue + 1) This is such a fun world already! I knew I’d love Charlene and she did not disappoint hehe. So fun to hear so many familiar voices again and I’m so excited to see where this tale leads!
Have a lovely week, everyone!!

Mil-Liminal is a cozy horror podcast featuring the charming and slightly unhinged Caro Greene, an employee working the counter during the night shift at a tiny gas station in the middle of the woods. Join their journey of witnessing the unexplainable! Liminal spaces, ghosts and ghouls galore, there won't be any jump-scares or hopelessness, just unsettling vibes with moments of comedy to lighten the mood. The podcast is in canonical order, meaning the first episode is Caro's first 'episode' as well, learning as they go to create their podcast.
Find it anywhere you listen to your audio dramas!
