Scenario:
You’ve been raped. A man in power took advantage of you and now you’re pregnant. You know that this potential child will be a permanent reminder of what happened to you and it makes you sick to your core. Is abortion still out of the question then?
Yup. That child is innocent.
Rape feels sick but killing an innocent person would feel much worse.
“That child is a permanent reminder” literally shut up with this fearmongering, harmful myth. So many women have their babies (THEIR babies, NOT the rapist’s baby) and heal much better from their rape than a lot of non-pregnant women I have met. A person will react differently and feel differently about their pregnancy, it’s definitely normal to react negatively, but the way society continues to demonize a literal child who had no say in whether their mother was raped is disgusting. Is it truly pro-choice to jump the gun and just target a literal child as an answer to the crisis?
If y’all care about rape victims, then at least pretend to support them and check out:
Hope After Rape Conception (less active on their website, so check out their Facebook page; they have helped strike down rapist paternal rights in some states)
Love Louder (active ministry that supports women after sexual assault and helps them through pregnancy if conception occurs)
And yes, plenty of pro-life women have been raped/assaulted, and yes, some have gotten pregnant from that. They exist. Stop pulling out the rape card and forcing them to either keep that pain hidden to avoid ridicule or to put their pin when they don’t want to. Stop demonizing children who did nothing wrong. They exist and didn’t fall for the evil of abortion. Get over it.
Also 70% of women carry pregnancies from rape to term so it’s not even that rare
“Murdering a child will make you feel better about being raped” is an argument that has always baffled me.
The ultimate example of 2 wrongs don't make a right.
Why destroy the one ray of light in such a dark situation?
I have been raped. I know people who were conceived in rape. Why are we using my/their stories- our ACTUAL. EXPERIENCES.- as ammunition?
How about this scenario -> POV: you’ve spent your entire life suffering circumstances like poverty, molestation, and undiagnosed disability, and you keep having to hear people use lives like yours as reasons to abort children, because obviously you’d be better off dead. POV you’ve attempted to take your life multiple times because the world tells you lives like yours aren’t worth living. You keep having your reality shoved in your face as a reason you shouldn’t exist, POV you finally find your voice only to have society continually spit this nonsense in your face, you received death threats and “kill yourself” messages because you believe lives like yours ARE worth protecting; and something needs to be done to change circumstances for those who are like you, not simply wipe them from existence.
