the way ivan aivazovsky looks at the sea…i think…i think that’s what love looks like.
love is surrounding yourself with people who see you this clearly
Still the freakiest fact about him is that despite being as tall as a person or more, he banged out these beauties in a day or two at most (and smaller ones ina matter of hours). The longest he spent on a painting, at age 81, to make his largest ever painting, was TEN DAYS:
It is 2.9×4.3 meters large. That’s 9'4"×14'1" for people in other measurement systems. It’s HUGE. There are artists out there that spend years on paintings much smaller than this. He was not one of them.
He also didn’t only paint the sea, but he MOSTLY painted the sea. Very few people could draw light filtering through waves the way this guy did and apparently it was tied into his layering technique that allowed him to paint so goddamn fast.
He is obviously my most favorite painter ever.

"St. George and the Dragon – Rivière's depiction of an exhausted St. George lying down beside the slain dragon is a radical departure from the triumphant equestrian position in which this saint is traditionally depicted"
Ahh so EXCITED to finally be able to talk about this one!!
My cover for IDW Sonic 59 (releasing 3/29) 🦔
Can't thank David Mariotte and Riley Farmer enough for letting me take a shot at making a traditionally painted cover
I told the IDW team that I always wanted to do a mock Renaissance painting for a cover someday, and this issue inspired me to go for it. I took lots of inspiration from classic paintings, and also specifically from "The Fallen Angel" by Alexandre Cabanel for Shadow himself.
I did the thumbnails and pencils digitally (easier for notes) and then used a mini projector to project the image onto a canvas, and transfer the pencils before painting the rest of it with acrylics.
I took lots of videos of the actual painting process, so I'll have to put those together sometime soon.
I hope you all enjoy! 💕
THIS IS THE FUNNIEST FUCKING RESPONSE IVE EVER GOTTEN ON ANY OF MY POSTS EVER

"image" is such a casual word i honestly think this masterpiece belongs in an art gallery for the world to see and appreciate
you will mention your favorite color is yellow and people will be practically jumping at the chance to let you know how hideous it is to them. just SALIVATING to look you in the eye and tell you it’s fucking ugly. like man what do you want and expect me to do here. change my mind? i have to laugh
it is a happy color. daffodils are yellow. pompompurin is yellow. do you hate him? pompompurin? do you think he’s hideous? do you want pompompurin to die? is that it? you sick fuck

his coworker, leaning around him: here’s a list of names you should vote or write your own

john: AGGRESSIVELY SHOWS ME PICTURE OF BABY SCORPION
