So first of all, I really really really like this picture :3 They all look so content and cute in their meadow, and the whole art style is just immaculate. Now, to go full autism mode

Many will already know, Dairy Cow Isopods are real! They look like this, they're tiny and cute!!

Scientifically, they are called Porcellio laevis, which normally looks like this

Another cool thing about them is that they are very flexible: they eat almost everything (detritus-wise ofc) and they acclimate to new surroundings fast! (which only makes sense, considering they're distributed just about everywhere, but they originate from north africa iirc)

There's also another morph which is more orange instead of the normal grey/brown that is common for woodlice.

Now, what's really cool is that seemingly, sometimes they do a thing called "alternating turns", which is basically them running and changing direction every consecutive turn. Now, it turns out that an increase in turn alteration is a kind of stress response! They do it when faced with predators long-term or when they are shined with light (Oniscidae generally don't like light, and it dries out their substrate). Interestingly though, they only do it when exposed to something long term, otherwise their alteration stays the same.

Even more interestingly, the same behavior has been found in Armadillidium vulgare! Normally, one would suspect that, like normal, they would just roll into a ball to defend themselves, but according to the study, this was not the case.

Alternatively, this type of scurrying could lead to more efficient foraging! And going back to the acclimation thing I said earlier: when exposed to constant stress, their turn alteration actually starts to decrease over time (although it's not 100% proven that it's due to acclimation or just evolutionary predisposition)
