That thing when Mario and Luigi do the exact same expression and look like the same person.

"He looks exactly like me but tall, and skinny, and green." - Mario in the movie

Yeah, this is why I believe they could even pass as identical twins despite actually being fraternal. Differences in height and weight happen in identical twins too, as do other minor differences, and otherwise Mario and Luigi look pretty much the same.

what if.. instead of trapping his victims in paintings, king boo turned them into statues? i imagine that the statue-ee(?) would still be sentient, so they can hear and see everything going on, while being unable to communicate. poor mario made a bad move by closing his eyes. my boy is probably so confused.

i’m very sorry mario :<

I was looking through my Mario Movie screenshots and just realized something.

The green light on the left side of Mario's head highlighting the empty space where Luigi would normally be...

... it gets brighter and greener after Mario sees the commercial and finds the determination to get back up and fight help.

Hey you know how in the movie how mario saved luigi? Did he just not give a shit about him after he was saved? Like, do you think mario went "oh he's fine now" and then proceeds to forget about him?

Uh....

... absolutely not???

Whatcha talkin' bout Willis (anon)?😃 From the moment the Bomber Bill was launched to the moment Luigi saved him from getting roasted alive, Mario was busy trying to save everyone. Once he got transported back to Brooklyn he had no idea where Luigi even was, and again, got a little busy trying to survive Bowser beating the living daylights out of him. How did you even come to that conclusion? Genuine question, I'm curious. What do you think he should've done in that situation to assure you he didn't forget about Luigi?

Others might’ve already said ỉn but I think the choice to have Donkey Kong as Mario’s rival turned friend against Bowser really works for what is the first movie, when you look at the history of the franchise.

Because DK started as Mario’s first enemy, the big villain he had to save his girl from. But that has since been eclipsed by his status as a friend to Mario, and the cultural zeitgeist around the two emphasizes that. Most might not even know DK was ever an enemy to Mario, especially not his first that started it all!

But Bowser and Mario, that’s the real conflict we’re here to see. You can’t have Mario not fight Bowser. We make Mario and Bowser go-karting memes because of the base understanding that they’re primarily enemies. So in your first Mario movie where it has a little bit of everything to appeal to casual audiences, you want Bowser as the big bad. But DK is the first, right? Are you really gonna just skip over such a historic title?

So you introduce Bowser as the villain, and on his way to Bowser you have Mario meet DK as a rival. But not a villainous one, so while they fight they eventually make up together. This way Mario technically fights DK before Bowser, while also preserving the new status quo of DK as Mario’s friend. And then they fight Bowser together, perfect.

Makes me wonder if they’ll get similarly meta with how Yoshi is introduced and written in the sequel, esp considering the back and forth chronology introduced with the Island series. DK still got elements from his series here, Yoshi is likely due for the same. The first film already used the Baby designs introduced in Yoshi’s Island.

How do you imagine Wario and Waluigi being introduced in the Mario movieverse?

Running from the cops.

Waluigi is clutching a trophy while Wario has a big bag of cash slung over his shoulder, and they're loudly arguing with each other about whose at fault for their current predicament. It can be quickly surmised that they cheated in some sort of competition, and when their scheme fell apart they decided to just steal the award and the cash prize and make a run for it.

They eventually escape, but amidst the high-octane japes of the chase they lose the trophy and the cash. As a result the two are on the verge of strangling each other once they're finally safe in Wario's hideout.

Wario starts trying to plan their next move. Waluigi desperately wants to bail on this entire stupid "partnership," but Wario reminds him that they're both in too deep at this point, and as much as he would like to never see Waluigi's ugly mug again they they need to watch each others' backs until this whole mess blows over.

"What we're needin' are aliases," Wario muses while his partner sulks in the corner, turning on an old staticky TV to news coverage of their cheating-scheme-turned-heist. "Somethin' friendly an' unassuming, somethin' people are gonna' trust on instinct."

"In other news, The Super Mario Brothers– a pluming / hero duo from The Mushroom Kingdom– prevented disaster today when some of Bowser's remaining troops..."

Wario's attention is steadily drawn to the TV, where Mario and Luigi are shown waving to a surrounding crowd. Wario looks at his and Waluigi's reflection in dirty window, then back at the TV. The similarities are not lost on him, and he smiles a sly smile.

"Hold on, I think I got an idea."

(Note: Neither Wario nor Waluigi refer to each other by name during this entire sequence, so it's implied the names we currently know them as are part of their alias.

They also don't have their copycat-outfits on or the backward L / W emblems. Instead, Wario is in his biker outfit while Waluigi's wears what he had on in Mario Golf : Super Rush.)

What did u think of Luigi's portrayal in the 2023 movie?

I love this high strung, socially awkward little weirdo.

He doesn't want to parkour over "no trespassing" signs or daringly dive underground to save the city but darn it he loves his brother so much he'll follow him anywhere despite whimpering and trembling the entire time. He's not super skilled at talking and prefers to stand behind Mario when meeting new people, but he'll man the business phone all day if it'll help their plumbing company stay afloat and organized.

A giant dragon is ripping out his mustache while demanding information about his brother? All Luigi can physically do is talk about how great he thinks Mario is despite the consequences.

Mario wants to move to The Mushroom Kingdom? Luigi has no clue what The Mushroom Kingdom is like and has experienced nothing of that dimension except fear and danger, but he trusts his brother enough to join him.

He's too soft spoken to get himself anything to eat at the dinner table but he brings his brother a plate of leftovers to make sure he doesn't go hungry!! He wakes up early to make sure Mario has a cup of coffee before they go to work!!!

He stood firm to shield his brother even as solid steel melted around him in 2500°F flames.

He deserves the world.

I actually stupidly thought he was having a panic attack, I still feel haunted by that but I will say this was a beautiful small scene with Mario

It really shows just how much of a character he is, how human and complex he is, in just a small snippet.

The way it just gives him time to breathe through the pain, recollect his thoughts, the moment he sees his brother on screen and how he really just.... Pushes himself to get up no matter how much pain he's in.

This moment was very beautiful and just made me fall in love with this man

Mario getting the strength to get back up all because he sees a visual of his brother is just 😭👌🏻

I need to see a moment in the next movie where Luigi gets the strength to get back up because of Mario.

Does the scene of Mario hiding in the pizzeria during the climax classify as a him having a panic attack? Because for Game Theory's Inside Out 2 video, it's mentioned as part of the recent animated movies to have a panic attack scene.

No. It's definitely not a panic attack. Mario is terrified, sure. But his other concern to to stay hidden and breath threw the pain because some turtle monster threw him into multiple cars.

I was wondering where the idea that it was a panic attack came from. Game Theory, you say? That explains a lot.

He's such a kind soul

I love how Luigi not only saves spike but gives him a little, "Hello," while tipping his hat.

And the last time Luigi saw this man he was bullying him and Mario

How sweet

Luigi is a sweetheart…I was just smiling and just thinking “You’re too good for this world….” @silenzahra little sis, @bberetd, @itsavee4117, @peaches2217, @keakruiser, @kelbreyworshipper, @nuctoria, @stripetkattelalala54, @pepperycar, @megamagimugi and @wahooitsamee I think you’d want to give this green clad hero all the adulations and praise to his sweet and kind personality…

Yeah, I remember watching the movie for the first time and thinking "heh, how polite of him to say hello in the middle of a battle". And of course, he was kind enough to defeat the enemies who were hounding Spike. But I'd say there's more to see here than just his kindness, look how cool and confident he is when he says that thanks to the star's power coursing through him. It was an interesting role reversal, with Spike cowering on the ground and Luigi standing over him, literally looking down on him, all confident. But while Spike was mean in that position, Luigi is kind enough to help him and then still choose to be courteous.
