Hello there, medicinalkiwis here!

My name is Kiwi, I mostly occasionally reblog random stuff relating to writing, gaming, or art, and I am a writer who constantly has ideas mucking about in my head. I'm afraid I haven't ever actually finished anything, though I do have several ideas bouncing around in my head that I plan to actually work on.

I do not approve of my writing to be used to train AI. Thank you.

I consider myself part of many "fandoms" including (primarily) several different anime such as Haikyuu, My Hero Academia, and ; the popular tv show Supernatural; video games like Stardew Valley, Baldur's Gate 3, and Skyrim; and certain YouTubers such as Markiplier, Sam and Colby, and YuuriVoice; and many others. However, I should make it clear that I simply watch the anime in particular and do not keep up with fandom drama that I only hear about much later.

Masterlist:

*Blank and ageless blogs will be blocked.*

~

I am willing to take questions relating to what I write or just general questions about anything, as well as requests for one shots or series that anyone wants to see. Please refer to the list under the cut to understand the things I will and will not write for. Feel free to let me know if there's something you're interested in that is not on the list!

~

  • Asks will be tagged as #askkiwi and #kiwianswers
  • Finished works (such as one shots) will be tagged as #kiwicontent
  • Parts in a series will be tagged under the name of the series, the number of which part it is following the name of the series, and as #kiwiseries
  • Requests will be tagged as #kiwirequests and under the name of the person who made the request, or under #anonrequest if the person was anonymous or wanted to be referred to as such
  • Drabbles will be tagged as #kiwidrabbles
  • Posts not related to asks, current works, etc. will be tagged as #kiwirambles
  • Posts related to asks, current works, etc. will be tagged #kiwiinfo
  • Reblogs will not be given a specific tag, but may be tagged with my thoughts on whatever is reblogged

~

Below the cut will be a list of things I will and will not write when taking requests. If you are unsure about something or have questions, feel free to ask!

Warning: Darker themes referenced below the cut. More may be added to each list later on.

Yep. This is terrifying. I’ve caught nursing majors, engineering majors, architecture majors relying on ChatGPT to do their homework. These are people who need to know their field well to ensure people don’t die and they’re letting a glorified algorithm cheat them through school. It’s so dangerous

hey. hi. I work in academia. and there are a lot of student-age folks on this site.

don't do this. don't use genAI. even if your professors give you permission. even if they ask for it or suggest it. if they do anything short of directly requiring it (and I weep, because I've already seen assignments that require it) don't touch that crap. if they do require it, stick it to them. be as maliciously compliant as possible. be a nightmare.

I know it might sound easier right now -- just plug in your assignment and get the answers. you don't care about this class anyway, it's not for your major, you don't see the value of the assignment.

but for your own sake, for the sake of your education and mind, and for the sake of the future world we want to have: learn the stuff. you are not as stupid as the corporate bizzaro kings who want to rule the world think you are, so don't give them reasons to believe it.

and odds are good genAI is gonna give you corrupted info anyway -- more and moreso as the machines cannibalize themselves.

just don't do it. not even "I just do it for XYZ--" no. stop. there is no valid use of generative AI, and even using it for memes or lolz feeds the system and directly feeds the pockets of the people who want to replace you anyway.

Rage reblogging this. Yesterday i got into an argument with one of my college friends who is using chatGPT to do all her work. We're psychology students. The whole group chat laughed my arguments off as if they didn't matter because "she's an artist, of course she's anti-AI" and i had to deal with it. This is a warning. If your therapist graduated in 2023/2024, ask about their opinions on chatGPT. They might lie to you if you ask "did you use it to graduate" directly, but try to make jokes about it and play it cool. If they're into it, DROP OFF. FIND A NEW ONE. Do not trust your brain to someone who didn't bother to use theirs.

Remember the first time we met Seth? Yeahhh, it wasn't exactly a pleasant time. We'll get to revisit all of those moments when the BitterSweet Director's Cut drops, but tomorrow he's a much softer boy in a camping trip sleep aid!

Don't miss it here!

words to use instead of ________

"Mad"

aggravated, angry, annoyed, boiling, cross, enraged, exasperated, fuming, furious, heated, incensed, indignant, irate, irritable, livid, offended, outraged, riled, steamed, storming, upset

"Nice"

amiable, charming, cordial, courteous, delightful, favorable, friendly, genial, gentle, gracious, helpful. inviting, kind, lovely, obliging, peaceful, peachy, pleasant, polite, swell, sympathetic, tender, welcoming, well-mannered, winning

"Pretty"

alluring, appealing, attractive, beautiful, charming, cute, delightful, desirable, elegant, eye-catching, fair, fascinating, gorgeous, graceful, intriguing, lovely, pleasing, striking, stunning, sweet

"Said"

alleged, argued, asked, asserted, babbled, bellowed, bragged, commented, complained, cried, declined, demanded, denied, encouraged, expressed, giggled, growled, inquired, moaned, nagged, rebuked, rebutted, replied, rejected, retorted, roared, scolded, shrieked, shrugged, stated, taunted, vowed, warned, whined, whispered, yelled

"Went"

avoid, bolt, bound, depart, exit, escape, flee, fly, hike, hop, jaunt, jolt, journey, leap, leave, lurch, march, mosey, move, pace, parade, pass, progress, retreat, saunter, scoot, skip, split, step, stride, stroll, tour, travel, vanish

Just want to add to this, because all of these are wonderful synonyms, but too all you baby writers out there, please please please remember that many, if not alll of these have special meanings and before plugging them into spice up your writing know what they mean.

Outraged and annoyed are very different, and also mean something other than mad. As do bellowed and said.

Here is an example:

The man strode into the bar, dressed in a disheveled suit and a scowl on his face, not exactly a pretty one either. I read his expression swiftly, the ire in his eyes, the slump in his posture. He beckoned me foward with the flick of his finger.

“A scotch. Whatever’s best. Neat.” He demanded all of this with a curt voice, and not turning to look at me. I put down the glass I was drying and went to fetch him his drink.

“Yes,” I said. I wanted him to leave and get home as fast as possible. A man not willing to play nice is one thing sober, but even a little alcohol could turn these murky waters to something mercurial.

Here is an example (modified):

The man strode into the bar, dressed in a disheveled suit and a scowl on his face, not exactly a beautiful one either. I read his expression swiftly, the ire in his eyes, the slump in his posture. He beckoned me foward with the flick of his finger.

You see how the slight change of word changes the story slightly. Making sure you understand the word is so important and also understanding that some of these words shouldn’t be replaced with a synonym (looking at you said), it’s an invisible word (like a character’s name is) and isn’t really glanced at. But if it feels repetitive than instead of replacing ‘said’ with another word that means it. Go for an action.

So:

“A scotch. Whatever’s best. Neat.” He demanded all of this with a curt voice, and not turning to look at me. I put down the glass I was drying and went to fetch him his drink.

Could be even more impactful as:

“A scotch. Whatever’s best. Neat.” He didn’t look at me with his curt voice and demanding tone, just stared in the reflection of himself in the mirror behind the wooden shelves stacked with bottles of liquor. I put down the glass I was drying and went to fetch him his drink.

I remember being young and having the magic Spellbook called the thesaurus and plugging in any synonym I could, but every grimoire as rules and every spell as a catch. The same goes for words, and getting caught up in not knowing how to use them can make some pretty wacky stories.

I just think people write out of obligation too often.

"How do I motivate myself to write through the boring part of my story?"

"How do I make this boring scene not boring?"

Don't write it.

Don't write boring things just because you think the structure of the story demands it. I promise it doesn't need to be there.

If your characters need to have gone shopping for a later part of the story to make sense you can just have a sentence about how they went shopping and move on.

You are not obligated to write the boring parts. No matter what those parts are.

You are not obligated to make the parts of your story that you're not excited to write interesting somehow.

You can just write the fun and interesting parts and gloss over and summarize boring things.

Your audience will thank you and you will thank yourself.

Lesser-known steps of the writing process:

  • Finding all the paragraphs where you used some hyper-specific word more than once
  • Rearranging paragraphs that you swear you wrote in the right order but turned out to be totally backwards
  • Going for a walk, coming up with the perfect line, and forgetting it as soon as you get home and open your laptop
  • Creating a separate document where you can dump all of those nice sentences that no longer fit in anywhere
  • Waking up in a cold sweat because so-and-so was supposed to be barefoot but never actually took his shoes off
