The entire impetus behind writing that fic was a throwaway comment Austin Walker made in the relatively early days of the More Civilized Age podcast where they recap and analyze Clone Wars episodes. Basically, it was some remark about the fact that historically slaves would end up being present for lots of very secretive conversations and act as a fly on the wall to all the darkest secrets and goings-on of a household because they weren't seen as human beings capable of betrayal. I've always been interested in the clones' status as a group of brainwashed mercenary slaves, and I felt like contrasting the 212th with the CG would be a good way to explore two very different possible manifestations of the resulting culture and psychology. Also, the Republic is a depressing postcapitalist failing hegemony just like my country and what healthier way to vent my ongoing existential crises than projection?
