What about the pact between two brothers who know they’re going to die early, after they get thrown right away into the most traumatic bloodbath battle-as-massacre of the war. But they get separated right away, and one of them gets sent to be a frontline commander on the fields of battle where his men keep being sent into charnelhouse after charnelhouse with the line barely ever meaningfully moving. And the other gets sent to the central city planet, cut off from the rest of the galaxy, being radicalized against his brothers and acting as some combination of slave/cop/security for the politicians and the wealthy who would never get their hands dirty with war.

WHAT IF THEYRE ALL COGS IN THE MACHINE BUT THEY CANT SEE IT YET MAYBE CAN’T SEE IT EVER YOU CAN’T SEE THE FOREST FROM INSIDE THE TREES YOU CANT SEE THAT YOURE BOTH PART OF THE SYSTEM UNTIL YOURE STEPPING OUT BECAUSE ITS FALLING DOWN! WARS IN FAILING HEGEMONIC DEMOCRACIES SLIDING TOWARDS DICTATORSHIP ARE PLAYGROUNDS FOR THE RICH AND WE ARE BEING CHURNED UNDER THEIR BOOTS! ITS ALL SYMPTOMS OF ONE SICKNESS! WE ARE STANDING ON OPPOSITE SIDES OF A WALL THAT IS ACTUALLY MERELY A PARTITION WITHIN A FORTRESS! YOU CANNOT ESCAPE

And what about when they order you to shoot your brother’s brother, who should be yours, too, and you comply?? Are you still brothers, have you become something else?? Has the machine eaten you? Is there a difference between being inside it and becoming it? Will you hold your fire long enough to ask yourself that question ?

Fox's reports are the most sardonic, passive aggressive reports anyone in the Senate Security Office has ever read. But they have to accept them because they are all technically by-the-book correct and unnervingly thorough, and nobody can find fault with them as hard as they try. The less caf he has had, the worse it is. He goes from "As per Coruscant Guard records..." and "As all Senate employees are aware..."

to "As one might be able to assume by means of basic observation and an approximately swamp-rat level of intelligence-" and "To elaborate on that, as one is required by Report Administration Regulation Clause 365:1a to do, despite a statistically proven decline in reading comprehension among government employees-*"

My man is hitting the keys one by one so hard his keypad breaks. He's got reflexive tears of manic rage in his eyes. He's imbuing his incident reports with so much hysteria the next Jedi who comes into contact with them gets a headache. Free him

*he has a source for this, by the way. Fox includes citations in his reports like a maniac. Like Cody. This is because if he has to countenance one more follow-up email than is necessary he will brain himself against the desk. He will commit lobotomy by pencil. Just you try and fucking stop him, Thorn.

Palpatine: Would you guys be there for me if I was going through something?

Bail: Nope.

Dooku: No, absolutely not.

Yoda: Hope it sucks, I do, whatever you’re going through.

Maul: I hope it emotionally scars you for the rest of your life.

Mace Windu: I hope you reach out to me so I can ignore you.

Fox: I can’t wait to go to your funeral knowing that I could have changed that outcome.

The Red Flag Blues - Chapter 1

(Part 1 of A Red Sun Rising)

Rating: M

Words: 1/11 Chapters, 4.6k words

Warnings: Graphic Depictions Of Violence, Major Character Death, Bombing, Violence, Suicide, Police Brutality

Relationships: CC-2224 | Cody & CC-1010 | Fox, Original Clone Trooper Character & Original Clone Trooper Character, CC-1010 | Fox/Clone Commander Thorn, CC-5869 | Stone & Clone Commander Thorn, Minor or Background Relationship(s)

Most Relevant Additional Tags: Deep Dive/Worldbuilding, Coruscant Guard, Enemies to Friends, Fox Is Not A Good Person (genuinely) But He's Trying, Minor CC-2224 | Cody/Obi-Wan Kenobi, Clone Commander Thorn is So Done, Mandalorian Clone Troopers, Manipulative Sheev Palpatine

Summary:

While on leave on Coruscant, a squad from the 212th battalion is given a straightforward mission - to help track down a Navy officer gone MIA. But everything is not as it seems in the Republic capitol. As he and his men race against the clock to find the officer and secure the valuable intelligence secrets he carries, Marshall Commander Cody becomes increasingly tangled in the obscure politics of the ignominious Coruscant Guard. What they discover about each other will challenge everything they've come to believe about themselves and the war they're fighting - and perhaps, will alter its course irrevocably.

My notes: I’ve been working on this on and off for two-ish years and the fact that I’ve finally got enough nailed down to feel comfortable putting the first chapter up is WILD. Anyway, this is a pretentious depression slurry as well as an opportunity for me to do some worldbuilding and psychological deep dives. It’s definitely heavy angst, but not quite the kind of CG whump that I think pulls fandom hits. I’m still having faith there are a couple kindred nerds out there who want to read something like this. This fic will not be abandoned (a lot is already written) but I make no promises about regular updates.

For like a year I’ve been occasionally fucking around in this Google doc with a bunch of little writing snippets based on the premise “what if there were just normal dogs in Star Wars and one of them got passed around and summarily adopted by all the different clone battalions.” And in my near-manic writing state lately I decided to actually do something with those. Behold.

Fandom: Star Wars the Clone Wars (2008)

Works in Series: 3

Total Words: 5,950

Rated G through T

Summary: The 501st Legion gets a dog. And then, because the 501st can’t keep their problems to themselves, the entire GAR gets a dog.

Most Relevant Tags: Fluff and Crack, Implied CC-2224 | Cody/Obi-Wan Kenobi, CC-1010 | Fox/Happiness (implied future relationship), Shenanigans, Hurt/Comfort, 212th Attack Battalion, 501st Legion, Coruscant Guard, Fluff and Angst, Swearing

Note: Check warnings for the one fic rated T, which has vague discussion of drug abuse and is also generally an Angst/Fluff combo.

More will likely continue to be added, there were seven different premises in the doc and I already have another queued up in Ao3 drafts.

I guess it can irk me when people like to write off the Fox-killed-Fives thing as a blank space of total mind control by Palps because it really removes his agency in that situation in a way that does not serve either the story or the character. Like, yeah, the coruscant guard, out of everyone in the galaxy, probably would’ve been the most likely to put together the pieces about Palpatine being a sith and the war a farce simply due to their nature as background “objects” in countless political meetings and as witnesses to countless phone calls. I don’t think it’s too far fetched to hc that Palpatine probably made an effort to counteract this by overtaxing, under-supplying, and discrediting the Guard at every turn, and maybe even sapping their energy and will through the Force. But. But Fox as a character is interesting to me because, despite all that, he could’ve still chosen to fire that gun. That could be a moment we see the flip side to the Umbara arc, where a soldier who has endured the horrors of slavery and war and psychological conditioning must choose between his masters and his brothers and, unlike Rex, he chooses the former. He’s a FOIL TO REX, his decision is a direct contrast. Clones aren’t a homogenous whole, that’s the entire point, and to remove Fox’s ability to make that decision all on his own is destructive imo
