so. have you seen the pictures from Rafah of the blackened, charred infants? the toddler with no head?

i would like to ask a favour of everyone seeing this post, from one human to another. don't think about the things you can't do - because as it seems, nothing is enough, and nobody can do enough - there is no use to be paralyzed by these thoughts. instead focus on the things you are already doing and the things you can do. i will start by compile a small list of personal suggestions, and please add to it from your own resources! this list is not numbered, i will just add things that i can think of off the top of my head and if it is of any help to at least one person, thats good. take care of yourself - that includes taking care of others, and this world we live in.

  • this is obvious but keep listening to Palestinian voices. i am mostly active on twitter so i will give some examples from there: Hind_Gaza, HossamShabat, BayanPalestine (press). MuhammadSmiry, does community work with Care for Gaza. m7mdkurd. Everyone is saying mostly the same thing - keep talking, keep protesting, keep boycotting. so do it.
  • keep talking. humans are social animals and it's as simple as this: the ongoing genocide is dire, urgent and catastrophic - i dont think i need to tell you that. but when people, a lot of people, share posts with each other and reiterate this fact the urgency will be felt stronger by everyone, and reach people who would otherwise maybe not see the reports of the genocide on their screens. if people instead choose to stop sharing and stop talking because it's "been so long" or it's "too difficult", the suffering will become normalized and the only thing people will see on their feeds are mundane things - food, pets, fandoms, and it will send the message that oh, it's not that important after all.... sometimes, you SHOULD feel disturbed and uncomfortable. these feelings are not evil - they will be channelled into actions to better a situation and better the world. silence is violence.
  • search for protests near your town, sometimes they're hard to find but once you find your local organizations for the Palestinian movement, follow them and you will usually find them! this all depends on where you live of course - but most often there will be fundraisers and events and mailing campaigns etc, and the more people joining the better. and, most importantly i would say, share these events and pictures (no faces of strangers, ofc! from protests on your facebook, twitter etc - because that way people close to you will see them and that it's completely rational and normal to attend protests, and if they've been on the fence maybe they will reach out and join you.
  • donate if you are able and share links to the different organizations - some examples are Care for Gaza, Sulala animal rescue, the Gazan Municipality Life for Gaza project (https://gaza-city.ensany.com/campaign/6737), the PCRF.
  • individual gofundmes - here is the google doc with a lot of campaigns, but im sure there are lots of them that arent yet added: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-DDMFyn-ttboPXrz1bB3MFk7BlzCwfugh4259Wh7U1s/htmlview
  • donate e-sims, which will be sent by the Esims for Gaza team to people in Gaza, to help communicate with their families etc during blackouts. it's very quick and easy and on nomad you can get a referral code which gives someone else 25% off their first purchase, and there's also often different bonus codes. on the website there's tutorials for how to buy the different esims. https://gazaesims.com/
  • there's some different charity shops where you can buy Palestinian products and the proceeds help Palestinian artisans and people. here are some examples, please add more if you know any: https://handmadepalestine.com/ (based in Ramallah, Palestine), https://forpalestine.dk/ (based in Denmark), https://www.shoppalestine.org/ (based in the US)
  • boycott!! the BDS of course have their targeted brands (https://bdsmovement.net/) but there's also for example the witness website with lists of brands and the reasons for boycotting them (https://boycott.thewitness.news/) and some different apps that do the same thing, like the "no thanks" app. yes, the list of brands is very, very long. maybe all of it isn't feasible BUT i think a good start would be to go through them and decide which ones are unnecessary either way that you're better off without (mcdonalds, starbucks etc), and then which ones are part of your usual shopping routine, make a mental note of them and pick different options - see it as an opportunity to try new things, to support local brands and smaller businesses!
  • go do yourself a favour and give Palestinian-Canadian artist Nemahsis' new single "stick of gum" a listen, it's super good! <3 https://youtu.be/VsqYlmf3SAg?si=EK_TZjo0Ijny8hMT

please, add more tips and resources below or just share your own pictures or art or thoughts!

macklemore is donating all proceeds from his song Hind's Hall to UNRWA <3

thank you for the addition! <3

  • Call for ceasefire, with script - https://ceasefiretoday.com/
  • If you don't have the funds to buy an esim there is a crowdfunding campaign where people can donate smaller sums to pool them together for esims - https://chuffed.org/project/crips-for-esims-for-gaza
  • Printable flyers with QR-codes for people to scan to help families in Gaza with their fundraisers. I haven't scanned the QR myself but here is the instagram site for the Gaza Family Funds Directory - https://www.instagram.com/gazafamilyfunds/, this is where the google doc with the list of Gazan fundraisers are.

Here are the flyers: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1U12AF9B30fZKkmsI6OoQldI-KBXd1S1y

  • in addition to boycott brands, boycott zionist / israel-supporting celebrities and other media - again, google is your friend, and it's always good to keep up to date with these things. obvious examples are stranger things and noah schnapp and brett gelman, gal gadot, and the upcoming captain america movie because of their refusal to remove the zionist character of "Sabra", who is a personification of the state of Israel. but this also includes your favourite artist and darlings, unfortunately. For example there are email templates to send to HYBE, to remove zionist Scooter Brown as CEO of HYBE America.
  • here's the email templates (2): https://docs.google.com/document/u/0/d/1u7PAGojbOaHHmR5-3o-YwxjTJiHRaMRDjdmVs0mPz8U/mobilebasic
  • https://docs.google.com/document/u/0/d/1G4qPWovaROkOH1VN6DFoj3cfD_5qAY4tOhPGmou4j70/mobilebasic
  • Does anyone know if there's similar templates for JYPE, for their collaboration with zionist and israeli artists/producers? I have looked around but unfortunately I can't find any.
  • it's honestly frightening and sad to see how many people will throw all morals out the window because of celebrity worship. remember they're just regular people, with odd jobs. giving your money to someone is an active choice, and one that we should utilize to tell corporations we do NOT want zionists, abusers, racists etc in music and other media. please join boycotts like these and let artists in no uncertain terms know what you think about their collabs, and maybe think long and hard about if they are your faves or not, going forward... if you want, you can still continue to listen to the music without actually streaming and giving them any money - this is easy to find if you just look for it in different communities.

EMERGENCY🚨Help a new mother and her baby find food, medical care, and safety

Suad Ahmad is an engineer from Gaza. She graduated from university at the top of her class and was rapidly excelling in her career as an instructor, consultant, and team leader.

Suad, her husband, and their family were overjoyed to find out she was pregnant. Sadly, this was only a week before occupation began its illegal scorched earth campaign against the people of Gaza. Suad's home (left) and workplace (right) were destroyed, and she and her husband's family were displaced from the north.

After building a scaffolding structure for their family in the supposed “safe area” in Rafah (left), the occupation attacked the city and forced their evacuation. Suad and her family were then displaced to Deir al-Balah, where they procured a tent (right). As you can see, these are small, vulnerable structures, completely exposed to the elements. They were exposed to multiple disease vectors while also being unable to procure enough food. During this time, Suad became extremely sick with gastroenteritis, a dangerous condition during pregnancy.

On the day she went into labor, Suad had to walk a great distance to the hospital. Upon arrival, she found that the hospital was operating at bare minimal capacity. There was not even a bed for her to use. Suad’s baby was born with minimal medical support, and the ordeal was extremely difficult. The occupation then began bombing the vicinity of the hospital. Suad and her baby were in immense danger, with nowhere to turn.

Unfortunately, the situation has only gotten worse. Suad and her infant are now living in a tent in extreme heat. IOF attacks continue, putting their lives in immediate danger. The occupation’s blockade on Rafah Crossing and the destruction of roads and infrastructure has led to increased, extreme food scarcity. Suad cannot find enough food to feed herself or her baby. She has not been able to recover from the difficult birth, and her baby is missing out on crucial nutrition needed for neonatal development.

Suad has had a campaign open for several weeks, raising support so that she, her husband, and her husband’s mother and sister could evacuate to Egypt. Sadly, progress has been slow. She was unable to collect the necessary resources to evacuate before the occupation illegally seized Rafah Crossing, the only border crossing that would enable evacuation.

However, international pressure continues to mount on the occupation to depart the crossing. Once they do, Suad and her baby need to be able to evacuate to Egypt for their health and safety. You can help make this possible by directly supporting them at the link below.

Please, help give Suad and her baby a better chance at life. If you cannot give, please reblog this post and repost the link▶️ (https://gofund.me/ebaee2af) across all of your social media accounts.

Hihi, Thank you for your contributions to Carol & The End of the World. I really enjoyed the series, and it's one that I'd like to revisit before the new year. I'll admit that when I saw it was another Netflix adult animation i figured it would be something just raunchy for the sake of being "for adults", but this managed to surprise me. The characters felt deeply human--conflicted--but also hopeful and kind in their own ways. It felt like sitting through a storm with the power out, but being handed a warm beverage and a blanket. Thanks

Thank you so much for watching and for sharing your thoughts! That's a beautiful, apt description of the experience.

I can totally relate to your initial reservations. Even while working on it, I had a sneaking prejudice – that it couldn't completely divorce itself from the general mean-spiritedness or shock factor we've come to expect from Western adult animation (up until recently). But even the arguably most conventionally-structured adult comedy episode, "David" is sweet and sincere and I'm glad my unfair assumption that it was just going to take the piss out of a guy that died alone at his desk was wrong.

Thank you for giving it a chance, and I hope your rewatch will be as comfy and hopeful as your first viewing.

That was the episode that finally got me to let my guard down about this show! Near the end, when they're up on the rooftop saying a few words and then just having a moment of quiet, I kept expecting... something. Someone farting, the ashes blowing back in their face, whatever. Some cheap gag to deflate the moment and wink at the viewer and go "Don't worry we're not really taking this seriously. That would be so cringe, right?" Bathos, I think it's called.

And it never happened! The moment played out, quiet and heartfelt and contemplative, and the show just let the moment be without forcing in a punchline to cap it off. That was when I realized I'd been braced for the show to take potshots at anything that looked like earnest emotional vulnerability, and that maybe I could actually relax and trust it to not do that-- and that trust was rewarded many times over, it's a show with a deep vein of kindness running through it.

It's such a fantastic show, really something special.

11/30/23: KOSA is an anti-LGBTQIA+ censorship bill. It is essential you call THIS week. Tell them you are specifically against KOSA and especially against hotlining the bill.

Call the Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and ask to be connected to the Senator of your choice.

Here is one that will send your reps a fax: https://resist.bot/

Even with the changes as of 2024, this is still dangerous. It could clear senate. It’s got enough support to. Contact your senators.

The vote is on March 13th.

Even better, contact your representatives since this bill doesn’t have much support in there and it’s important that it never does.

Please be aware that the "opt-out" choice is just a way to try to appease people. But Tumblr has not been transparent about when has data been sold and shared with AI companies, and there are sources that confirm that data has already been shared before the toggle was even provided to users.

Also, it seems to include data they should not have been able to give under any circumstance, including that of deactivated blogs, private messages and conversations, stuff from private blogs, and so on.

Do not believe that "AI companies will honor the "opt-out request retroactively". Once they've got their hands on your data (and they have), they won't be "honoring" an opt-out option retroactively. There is no way to confirm or deny what data do they have: The fact they are completely opaque on what do they currently "own" and have, means that they can do whatever they want with it. How can you prove they have your data if they don't give everyone free access to see what they've stolen already?

So, yeah, opt out of data sharing, but be aware that this isn't stopping anyone from taking your data. They already have been taking it, before you were given that option. Go and go to Tumblr's Suppport and leave your Feedback on this (politely, but firmly- not everyone in the company is responsible for this.)

Finally: Opt out is not good under any circumstance. Deactivated people can't opt out. People who have lost their passwords can't opt out. People who can't access internet or computers can't opt out. People who had their content reposted can't opt out. Dead people can't opt out. When DeviantArt released their AI image generator, saying that it wasn't trained on people who didn't consent to it, it was proven it could easily replicate the styles of people who had passed away, as seen here. So, yeah. AI companies cannot be trusted to have any sort of respect for people's data and content, because this entire thing is just a data laundering scheme.

Please do reblog for awareness.

Hi, Tumblr. It’s Tumblr. We’re working on some things that we want to share with you.

AI companies are acquiring content across the internet for a variety of purposes in all sorts of ways. There are currently very few regulations giving individuals control over how their content is used by AI platforms. Proposed regulations around the world, like the European Union’s AI Act, would give individuals more control over whether and how their content is utilized by this emerging technology. We support this right regardless of geographic location, so we’re releasing a toggle to opt out of sharing content from your public blogs with third parties, including AI platforms that use this content for model training. We’re also working with partners to ensure you have as much control as possible regarding what content is used.

Here are the important details:

  • We already discourage AI crawlers from gathering content from Tumblr and will continue to do so, save for those with which we partner.
  • We want to represent all of you on Tumblr and ensure that protections are in place for how your content is used. We are committed to making sure our partners respect those decisions.
  • To opt out of sharing your public blogs’ content with third parties, visit each of your public blogs’ blog settings via the web interface and toggle on the “Prevent third-party sharing” option.
  • For instructions on how to opt out using the latest version of the app, please visit this Help Center doc.
  • Please note: If you’ve already chosen to discourage search crawling of your blog in your settings, we’ve automatically enabled the “Prevent third-party sharing” option.

If you have concerns, please read through the Help Center doc linked above and contact us via Support if you still have questions.

Thought you would like to know that i loved your design of Abracadaniel in wizard city so much that i made the sweater for myself :)

Ha, oh my God, I love this! Please update me if you end up with the matching sweatband and crocs.

In case you're curious, that outfit was basically my own lounge uniform at the time. Extremely good sweater and also the most Abracadaniel-looking thing ever

Carol & The End of the World is out now on Netflix

While I find my digital boards from 2021, here are some early post-it thumbs for Throuple. Great ep. Grep.

Carol is pretty much exactly the kind of adult animated show I wanted to work on and see in the world. Watching it in its completed state today – finally – I thought of a timeline in which this show was culled like so many others in this dark-ass era for the industry

I particularly love the episodes our team – Bert, Sam, Seo, and myself got to work on. They're all weird and arthouse-y but sweet in a way that's totally in my wheelhouse. Maybe this wasn't Dan Guterman's intention, but I don't think it's unfair to say that there's something of a Steven Universe-esque spirit to these eps, if that interests anyone here haha.
