Will humanity ever be free of the influence of Edna Mode? Can any of us so much as consider the character design for a hero or villain without her manifesting in the room, fully aware of our sins?

You know what, another layer of difficulty is when you’re thinking about villains, and the wise words of Megamind come into your head. You don’t just want your child to be just a regular villain. But how do you make your villain a Supervillain with no cape? Where is the drama? But Edna says no capes, you must deny them the flair. It is impossible to please them both, and it’s tearing this family apart.

you. you get it.

Counteroffer: Big dramatic cloak to protect your identity that you drop on the floor before every fight

I can’t believe the compromise is Obi-Wan Kenobi

“No capes!”

“Game on, then.”

Okay, but I love that Gandalf is just dropping his cloak to reveal another, slightly smaller cloak underneath it.

So, my eight-year-old goddaughter loves to draw. She'll practice drawing characters from media she likes, and watch YTKids drawing tutorials. I also bought her a book of tutorials for Christmas last year.

She's really enjoying a Web series called Fundamental Paper Education. She's got the hang of the art style. At least, enough that I can recognise it with a glance.

She just came in to show me her latest drawings. I asked what the characters names are, and she responded "I haven't decided yet." I told her the drawings were great, and to write down the names when she thinks of them, as well as any important information she thinks of, like favourite colours or which other characters they're friends with.

SHE'S CREATING OC'S. I'M SO PROUD.

Not socialist in a “I won’t have to work” type of way but socialist in a “I’ll still be working but I won’t be worried I won’t make the rent” type of way. In a “billions won’t be hoarded by one person” type of way. In a “janitors, fast-food workers, child care workers, preschool teachers, hotel clerks, personal care and home health aides, and grocery store cashiers, will live comfortably” type of way. In a “the sick and elderly will be cared for” type of way. In a “no child should work” type of way.

In the "my illness won't condemn me to an early, ignominious death" kind of way.

in a "everyone who wants to have children will be able to afford that" type of way

in a “decent housing is a human right” kind of way

This absolutely tracks with my local secondhand bookshops.

1. Before it closed last month, the Nambour Book Exchange was in a basement that was originally an arcade in the 70's and 80's. In certain spots, you could feel the floor sagging under the weight of the bookshelves. Lovely bloke running it - always up for a chat.

2. Duporth Book Exchange in Maroochydore was always crammed with books, and then the landlord wanted to redevelop, so they moved down the street to a smaller premises. Now I feel like I have to hold my breath to squeeze down the aisles, and tiptoe to avoid catching my massive feet on the stacks on the floor. This is not a criticism.

3. Archives Fine Books down in Brisbane. A bit further away, but dear to my heart. One of the greatest bookshops in the country, secondhand or otherwise. Shelves so towering that they provide wooden stepstools to reach the high shelves. It looks huge when you walk in, and when you finally get to the back wall, there's a short flight of stairs into the next building and *even more* books. They advertise "one million books" and I'd believe it.

I think the most unintentionally pretentious part of me is I genuinely forget that most people do not have a near-encyclopedic knowledge of mythology and folklore. I literally just assume most people know at least the name of every Greek god. My mom and I were watching the Banshees of Inisherin and at the start, she asked "Do you know what a banshee is?" and I was so stunned because it would never occur to me to ask that question because I would never assume the average person doesn't know what a banshee is. The average person knows what a banshee is right. You know what a banshee is right. You know the names of the greek gods right. You know that norse myth where loki fucked the horse right. Right. RIGHT

As always there’s an xkdc comic for the occasion

The paradox of tolerance is only a paradox if you think of tolerance as some sacred and unconditional moral duty. Some ultimate and absolute law with no exceptions, and if you ever slip into the sin of intolerance, you must repent yourself and beg for forgiveness. Yeah no fuck that. Tolerance is a social contract. You're in the game as an equal player for as long as you play by the same rules as everyone else, and if you don't, your ass is fucking out. You're not entitled to the same respect you won't give others.

"Oh so you all tolerate each other just because you tolerate each other, but if I want to destroy you, then all of a sudden you want to destroy me?" Literally yes. That's the gist of it. What's not clicking. This equation is so simple it barely counts as math.

"I refuse to sign the social contract if it means I have to be polite to people I don't understand" said the bigot

"Well then you aren't protected by the terms and conditions" says everyone who has signed

generally speaking when it comes to mental and physical health, if you're asked "do you struggle with this" and your answer is "no, Because I Have A System," then your answer is actually yes

Also, for ADHD symptoms specifically, if they ask something like, "Do you have trouble waiting your turn in conversations?" and your answer is, "No I'm a grown up I don't interrupt people," but you are constantly finishing sentences for people in your head and have formulated three replies before they finish talking.... the answer is yes, yes you do.

And if you can stay in your seat but are constantly bouncing a leg, clicking a pen, tapping out a rhythm on your thigh, or otherwise fidgeting, the answer is, yes, you do have trouble staying in your seat.

Neurotypicals do not require iron clad self control and three coping techniques to sit still during a meeting.

What if your answer is "No, I don't have trouble waiting my turn because I can't tell when it's my turn so I never take my turn."?

*taps sign*

I hope everyone who chose not to vote realises they're equally as responsible as those who did vote for Trump. The two groups worked hand in hand to make this happen. They are the same side of the coin. Abstaining from voting is not a neutral act.

Yeah, Trump didn't win because millions of swing voters picked him, but millions of people not voting for Harris. Here are the current stats:

72 million is a lot of votes. But he had more than that when he lost to Biden:

So Kamala Harris lost because ~13 million people think something asinine like:

- she's not tough enough on Israel (despite Trump saying he wants to "finish the job" in Gaza - that's *somehow* not worse)

- she went too centrist (and alienated leftists)

- she was too radical (and alienated swing voters)

- she's weak on crime, immigration, etc (despite her opponent being a CONVICTED FELON)

- she's not experienced enough (despite Trump flaunting his lack of understanding of basically everything)

- apparently, some people still thought Biden was the candidate

(Let's be real, racism and sexism played a part)

A smart, capable leader with a vision for the future was beaten by a campaign of fearmongering and dogwhistling; this is rehashing my despair over the Queensland election a couple of weeks back.

just wanted to remind everyone again not only of the 3,000+ resources offered through our Liberation Library but also of the study guides for beginners offered under each of our social justice topics!

resources can be organized by type (article, novel, podcast, video, etc.) as well as filtered and searched through. we’ve tried to make our system much more accessible than our former platform on google docs so this is such an exciting development to share with everyone.

please share to promote equitable access education!
