Vergil was first pulled into Limbo as a child. When he described everything he'd seen there, his adoptive parents just chalked it up to night terrors. I imagine they had trouble understanding him at first.
I could absolutely see that.
I know a lot of people imagine Vergil with very distant, possibly unloving parents but I've always seen him with fairly supportive and caring adoptive parents. That all said though they definitely do not understand him much, particularly when he's little and talking about things he's seeing and experienced. He probably eventually stops telling them. And after he finds out his past I've never imagined him going to them about any of that, hence this sort of double life I imagine him having as an adult.
But yeah long story short I could so see that
