10 Characters I’d like in Smash Switch

Whether or not you agree with it, I think I’ve come my decision on 10 NEW characters I’d really like to see in Smash Bros. I’ll share a few quick details on why.

Spring Man (ARMS) ARMS was one of my favorite Switch games last year and had such a great lineup of characters, world design, lore, etc. It seriously deserves more credit than it gets and I’d LOVE to see Spring Man join the battle. BONUS: Spring Tron would be his “alt” as the two move exactly the same in ARMS.

Wonder-Red (The Wonderful 101) A similar as ARMS, its a newer IP that I feel didnt get as much credit as it deserves. Practically my favorite game of all time. It’s over the top, frantic, hack and slash gameplay would be wild to see translated into Smash.

Pyra and/or Rex (Xenoblade Chronicles 2) Xenoblade Chronicles has clearly made it’s mark now in the west with more people becoming familiar through Smash and Xeno 2 selling over 1 million units worldwide surprisingly quickly. Clearly there’s already a dedicated fanbase to the character Pyra. I would bet she’d get in or even be in a tag-team with her driver, Rex. Perhaps they’d have a mechanic where their moves are stronger when near each other on the battlefield.

Chibi-Robo (Chibi-Robo!) A personal favorite of mine on the gamecube, Chibi-Robo definitely holds potential in his moveset. From using household items, to his Chibi-Blaster gun, to swinging around his cord to wack foes, there’s a ton of potential.

Mallo (Pushmo/Pullblox) At this point it’s obvious I have a love for Nintendo’s smaller IPs, but hear me out. Mallo is in fact a professional sumo wrestler, so maybe he could put some of those moves to use on the battlefield. A guy can dream.

Dillon (Dillon’s Rolling Western) Dillon is a seriously cool character, a tough cowboy of few words who’s spawned 3 whole games now. With powerful spinning moves, razor sharp claws, and a large supply of TNT, I desperately wanna see Dillon move up from assist trophy to full on fighter.

Andross (StarFox) Now I completely agree that we need more villains and there are others I want like Ridley or King K. Rool. But I decided on listing Andross cause the image of him in Smash was so dang cool. Now I know he’s supposed to be a huge robotic head, but like how many other fighters have been scaled up or down, he could be scaled down just fine. He’d still be large, think Bowser or DDD, or Donkey Kong size so he’s be intimidating, and yes he’d still be a floating robotic head with two hands. I know it sounds weird but think of the possibilities! And he’s finally bring something interesting to the table and end the clone hell we’ve been experiencing with Star Fox reps. Think about it.

Bomberman (Bomberman) A classic character that Nintendo themselves reportedly asked Konami to bring back for the Switch, leading to Super Bomberman R on the Switch. So for Nintendo to feel such importance towards the character gets me thinking that they may have more planned. BONUS: his alts would be his brothers and sisters :)

Rayman (Rayman) He got a trophy in Smash4 that Ubisoft 3D modeled themselves for Sakurai. And Nintendo & Ubisoft are super close right now with the idea of collabs after the immense success of Mario + Rabbids. I feel like it’s a super safe bet we’ll see Rayman. Globox and Barbara would be cool as alts since they all play exactly the same in Rayman Legends but I’m not holding my breath on that idea.

Travis Touchdown (No More Heroes) He’s going down a similar road as Bayonetta. A mature franchise. Finally getting a new game exclusively for Nintendo. Being strongly showcased in directs and at demo events and cons. Not to mention it’s creator Suda51′s dream to see him in Smash, even saying in an interview after last year’s Switch presentation in January that he still hopes for this to happen and that he’ll be “persistent” with Sakurai.

There’s a bunch more that didn’t make the list, but we’ll probably discuss that at a later time.

Every 3rd party character with their games they’ve brought to Switch.

Cloud (and the Final Fantasy series as a whole) is the only third party Smasher who hasn’t  contributed anything to the Nintendo Switch library.

Although this isn’t to say that Square Enix hasn’t been supportive of Switch, they’ve given us Dragon Quest 11, Dragon Quest Builders, Dragon Quest Builders 2, Dragon Quest Heroes 1 & 2, Lost Sphear, I Am Setsuna, Project Octopath Traveler, The World End With You, and more.

But it’s still weird to see Cloud here as he’s looked more to as a Playstation character than a Nintendo one. Here’s hoping to see something with him on the Switch one day.
