I feel like one of my bigger issues with a lot of bitb fics, and the way they characterize the guys, is that people seem to assume that the Rolan we see for most of the campaign is how he is a majority of the time, when that’s clearly not the case.

Rolan, while still in Chicago, is breaking the speed limit and clearly not worrying about things that much. He’s popular enough that a cop instantly recognizes him and lets him off the hook. He’s liked and he’s confident and he’s living his best life.

But all of that changes when he gets back to Galloway. He reverts back to a stressed out teenager who just wants to get out as soon as possible, who has a hard time talking to people and gets scared easily. And because that’s the Rolan we see most of the time, people assume it’s just how he is, but that’s not the case.

Rolan during the story is at his worst. He’s different from how he would be anywhere else, and he’s almost certainly different from how he would have been as a kid or a teen as well. People see Rolan being anxious and unwilling to do drugs and put a stamp of “former nerdy good kid now anxious and awkward adult” onto him, when that’s so clearly not how he was or is.

There are multiple mentions of him sneaking out as a teen, of the shit all three of them got up to, honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if Rolan was even worse than Kian and Rand at times because his parents were helicoptery and more controlling and he wanted to fight that. He was a geek just like Rand and Kian were, but he wasn’t a good kid. It’s literally mentioned that he only went to study law because that was just the place that happened to accept him! Because after everything, he just applied anywhere far away to get out of Galloway!

Rolan during the campaign is not how he would be in any other situation. Were he anywhere else, he wouldn’t be anxious and stressed and constantly on edge and acting like some goody-two-shoes perfect law abiding citizen. He’s like that because of Galloway. He’s like that, because as soon as he gets back into town, the years of change and growth are ripped away from him, and he’s just a kid who saw his own corpse when looking in the bayou.

I imagine Kian's control over an opponent is more like a REALLY GOOD charisma throw if that makes sense? It's like "Hey it'd be really cool if you stopped using your weapon/powers." And he like.. looks pretty at em for a second haha/j. For example. Not total mind control but like.. how they rule a weaker dominate roll in the Suckening? Idk how to explain it :'))).

THAT BEING SAID. I think their powers WOULD clash in interesting ways. Idk if you think Wight can be charmed? But Kian sure as hell would have a lil thing against control/charm conditions due to his own I think?

(Now fighting Kota he'd have to rely on his sound wave power because that feral little creature would probably be too fast or determined to kill him to be charmed lmao)

OHHHH THAT IS SO FUN...... I get what you mean ^-^ they would actually probably work pretty similiarly, because wights powers are against willpower, and they just make a person chaotic evil /j (oversimplification but I haven't really gone in depth about it. because I have tweaked them a little for my au,,,,)

im not actually sure if wight. would have some sort of resistance to it. I kind of assume he would? but I don't think there's any real reason he would,,,,

giggles though based on what you've said abt the others in the bitb crew I feel like rolan would probably have to deal with kota (and/or virion,,,,,,,,,)

oh yeah this sure as hell isn't an even numbered fight because Timothy 'Smokeshot' Rand is NOT GONNA BE CLOSE. He can shoot people from afar but if they see him he's fucked so "No thank you, only finishing blows. Oh the red one's approaching you Rolan!"

Rolan is pretty much the only actual close range fighter the Bayou Team has sooo yes Virion and Kota are probably his to fight. I think in stamina and all, Kota and Mantiscythe are pretty evenly matched, though Rolan has to look out because if he hurts himself bad, he's pretty done for in this situation. (Would Kota eat bugs? Probably.) As for Virion... I honestly don't know much about his powers or fighting style so I can't say haha

Ashe would probably need to fight Kian alongside Wight. If their powers cancel eachother out, Loveshock and Wight would have to fight more closer range than they're comfortable with. Fun getting them out of their comfort zones >:)))
