Today was soooo nice. I got the opportunity to perform CPR on a patient in the ER with my friend this morning (the third guy in Our group skipped the round and let me tell you it was heaven without him); the patient had suffered a surgical cardiac arrest after falling from the 9th floor. It was hectic. Sadly he passed away (may his soul rest in peace)

Also, we managed to convince the attending to let us practice IV insertion on each other (just the needle part) because he was so against the idea thinking that we would harm each other. The RN supported us and then she taught us how to properly do it. Didn’t nail it the first time but it was a nice experience. Also we were the only ones in our group (20 students) who got to do that so YAS. (same goes to COR; we did it twice)

This is the first weekend in my med school career during which I actually felt like i was studying. Maybe being in my clinical phase affected my view of studying; i actually felt like i was studying for a reason.

Also i have an exam tomorrow hehee.

ITS EARTH DAY Y’ALL.

It’s just sad how my friend don’t care about Earth day, which also happens to bw my birthday. This did sadden me. A simple happy birthday would’ve been enough.

Nevertheless, I’m grateful for the 4 that remembered my birthday 🙌🏼

Anyways, I’m currently solving questions AND IM THRIVING.

Any ideas for efficient breaks between study sessions?

I’m a pro at this;

For a 5 minutes breaks;

  1. Clean your desk. This is very important because you would want to have a clean space when you want to return to studying. It’ll also help you focus more.
  2. Grab a healthy snack. Carrots and nuts are my favorite snacks tbh. 
  3. refill your bottle of water.
  4. Solve a rubix cube (if you know how to solve it)
  5. Check your email or messages, but make sure you don’t spend more than 5 minutes. Just reply to the important ones.
  6. Make yourself a cup of tea or coffee.

For 10-15 minutes breaks;

  1. Prepare some oatmeal! I love oatmeal and I always have some during my break. It’s very nutritious and it wakes you up frankly.
  2. Have a shower. Sometimes when I’m sleepy, I just take a short shower, usually moderately cold, maybe even warm, and change into fresh clothes. That boosts my level of concentration AND makes me feel amazing.
  3. Tidy your room. This is a nice way to control the mess and it sets you in a better mood, knowing that everything is in place and neat. 
  4. Call a friend! You sometimes need to chat with someone that makes you feel happy.
  5. Watch a youtube video (preferably motivational). This is what I do most of the time. It really gives me a boost of motivation and kind of reminds me why I’m doing what I’m doing. Why I shouldn’t stop.
  6. Exercise; some yoga sequences, crunches, squats, ANYTHING REALLY! Maybe practice your splits or bridge. I don’t know, just MOVE your body. I frankly dance. I just place some music and start to choreograph to it. Or I also practice my kicks for karate (trying to get them higher than usual). Just do any kind of exercise that moves your body.

For 20-40 minutes breaks;

  1. POWER NAP YAASSS. If you feel too tired, just sleep. Tell someone to wake you up in 20 minutes or so. but don’t exceed the 40 minutes or else you would wake up tired rather than energized. Tbh, a 20 minutes power nap is the best option.
  2. Read a chapter from your favorite book. Just one chapter yeah?
  3. Prepare lunch, or dinner. I honestly just go heat up my food and eat it, or maybe actually prepare some (noodles bruh). and then I watch something while I’m eating, like a part of that musical I’ve been wanting to watch (Heathers is what I’m currently watching).
  4. Prepare next week’s spread. I tend to do that during the weekends.
  5. Skincare! Since I have rosacea (it sucks), I use this time to wash my face, apply a face mask, then wash my face AGAIN then put some serum to regenerate the skin. Not only is this good for my skin, but it also makes me more relaxed.
  6. Go outside! go to the library, the coffee shop, the grocery store, the park. ANYTHING. You need fresh air. 

For 1-2 hours break; 

THIS IS THE MOST YOU CAN GET.

  1. Watch a movie. Preferably something that doesn’t have sequels. 
  2. Watch an episode or two from your favorite show. if the episode is for 1 hour or more (Sherlock or GOT) you probably should watch one episode.
  3. Go out. Have lunch with a friend, or by yourself (quality time aye)
  4. Go shopping!
  5. Write. I have a two hours break every Saturday and Sunday to write.
  6. Clean up your closet. You probably have many shirts and pants that don’t fit you anymore, so why not give them to someone that actually needs them?

This is what I can think of at the moment. Hope they’re useful!

And remember to actually be productive for you to take a break yeah?

so this is a picture from yesterday because i was too busy to post it and today i was too busy to take a picture. Haha.

Anyways; TODAY WAS AMAZING Y’ALL. AMAZING. I solved 34 respiratory uworld questions (med student would know that they’re hard) AND I GOT 30 RIGHT! The 4 wrong ones were due to my dumb ass that cant read properly.

I hope everyone is doing amazing!!!!!!

YOU GUYS I GOT A 80/100 ON THE TEST I HAD TODAY hxksishjska IM SO HAPPY WHAT EVEN!

Tried to study a bit today but I was so tired, so i only managed to finish like 1/4 of the respiratory physiology. Tomorrow, I’ll work harder.

Also tip; berries actually help you focus, so have some berries while you study if you can. Or just random fruits. Fruits are amazing. They help you focus and they are good for your brain.

I know it’s wayyy past midnight so ignore the fact that it’s already the 31st. Hehe.

Anyways, i kind of slacked today and I’m to blame because freakin procrastination!! I ended up reading a book (and finishing it. It takes 6 hours to finish a 300 paged book just so you know).

However, i put on my big girl pants and got my shit together. I have an exam on monday (which i just started preparing for), don’t be like me kids. Study for your exams a week ahead. I was just busy preparing for my ifom exam that I completely forgot about the test on Monday. Yay me!

Ugh i hope I’m able to finish the material on time.

Okay so leukemias aren’t as hard as I thought. God bless First Aid for making them easy.

So here’s what I did today;

• bleeding disorders

• heme synthesis and its disorders (now, let me just express my love for this specific topic. I find the porphyrias SO intriguing that I’ve read articles upon articles about them. I EVEN MADE THIS MIND MAP GUYS YOU CANNOT IMAGINE HOW MUCH I LOVE THEM)

• leukemias and lymphomas

• the pharmacology of the entirety of hematology (anti platelets, anticoagulants, thrombolytics, cancer drugs, etc..)

Today was quite productive. It’s already 12:30 AM but I’m still going. I’ll be starting with Cardiology. If you’ve seen my previous old posts, you can tell how much i adore cardio and i frankly find it easy hehe.

Also here’s something i did; i would study for like an hour then take a break for 10-15 mins during which i reprganized my desk, prepared some tea, refilled my bottle of water, or went to the bathroom. ALWAYS TAKE BREAKS. ALWAYS. But control them.

I LOVE ME SOME HEALTHY SNACKS. Esp kiwis and pomegranate. Turns out, my taste buds adore this combination.

It’s past midnight and I’m still going aye!!!

Also my legs hurt because i had karate class today and all the kids at the Dojo practiced on me, so you can say i had to take many low kicks. And to too that off, i had to play against my friend (who is a black belt) and MY LEGS ARE DEAD I SWEAR. THE BOY HAS IRON LEGS WHAT EVEN (go figure)

Let’s pray that I am able to walk on monday.

Hey I read your post about how to improve your studies and I feel like it's literally so helpful. The only problem I have is I feel very upset when I can't make something look aesthetic because as for now I don't have an aesthetic desk or an aesthetic library or anything like that and mostly I try to ignore it but it does get to me unfortunately. I don't know how to stop this. It's silly but it does affect me a lot.

First of all, I’m really glad that I helped💙💙 second, i feel you. My desk isn’t even aesthetic, it’s just a mess that I love, with all those wuotes around, fairy lights, and pens. Not to mention the word banana that my sisters engraved on the desk, ruining it. But that’s okay.

Before, i used to look at all those tumblr posts that look so freakin aesthetic like how did you place your notebook AND pens in such a way with the perfect lightning? HOW? It really made me think a lot and actually made me afraid of posting because my pictures won’t be good enough. But that’s the thing, they don’t have to be.

Sure it will bug you at first, but once you accept being aesthetic is not the essence of being a studyblr, everything will be easier. I honestly accepted that not long ago, since i noticed that I spent my time making my desk and notes look aesthetic rather than studying them.

If you really want to solve the problem just go to a dollar store, buy anything you find aesthetic or pleasing, then print out some posters or quotes, hand them around your desk. Recycle those starbucks or plastic coffee cups you buy and use them as pen holders.

You shouldn’t make your desk look like some else’s desk. Tbh here all the desks look the same. Be unique. Let your desk be YOUR desk. Let it speak about your personality.

Screw aesthetics. Be productive. Be proud of your desk. And don’t let any picture change that.

I went to starbucks today (obviously) and actually got a lot of things done. Kudos to my friend for taking that third picture.

I tried the iced americano something idk the full name Cz I’m bad with names. It was good.

I’m sick. Really physically sick. My nose is running miles and my throat is just a whole different story. Yet I got myself together and started studying for my exam on Monday just so that I don’t mess up like I have on ny first exam this semester.

Tbh i feel like I’m getting back into the rhythm. Now i just have to maintain it. Hope it works.

I HAD THE BEST DAY EVER! I woke up at 6, was at the coffee shop at 8, then went to the library at 11:30 and stayed there till 4pm. Now I’m home and I’m going to resume studying.

I finished 4 chapters of physio and THE WHOLE OF PATHOLOGY IM SO HAPPY.

Also this is the second time I EVER HAVE COFFEE and let me just say that I can still frel the caffeine buzzing in my veins.

I was studying for my clinical and practical exams so my desk was a mess.

Tomorrow, I’ll start prepring for my first final which is next Thursday. I’ll go to my local Dunkin Donuts, it’s quite cozy and not loud so a good spot to study until the public library opens at 11-ish am, then I’ll go to the library and stay there until closing hour.
