As I’ve said before, my main beef with The Hobbit trilogy - apart from the fact that it wasn’t about The Hobbit - is that the rare moments of badly-needed character development all seemed to be nothing more than an afterthought.
By all means, have big battle scenes. But if we don’t care about the characters fighting those big battles, then your movie is a pretty empty one.
