Back to school - tips & essentials for getting organised

I’ve studied a lot. I have a bachelors degree in law and started my bachelor’s in Nordic language and linguistics last year. Now the school is back and I am here to help you get settled, because starting up can be … a lot and it’s easy to get overwhelmed.

Essentials

- apps w/ notification for your to do list (update this every week and plan your next week on Sundays) This is especially important if you’re an ADHD girlie like me~

- Synced calendar with your uni: this way you know when and where you have a lecture.

- Pens, sticky notes, folders, papers, highlights and so on.

When you’ve acquired everything you need, here’s what you’ll do to stay in touch with everything:

Tips

- If you’re studying literature or you have to read a lot, I recommend putting post its on all your books (or papers) with your due date and stack them in a to be read pile like this:

That way you always know what to read for when you’d need it: this has helped me a lot!💃🏼

Remember to keep up with you email and your student website as well through notifications! I hope my tips and tricks for getting you organised has helped you and if you have any questions starting up studying and / or generally about studying, feel free to message my inbox!🫶🏻

Lots of good luck!🫶🏻

This has been sitting in my drafts forever! I am just going to put it out there)

Dear diary,

School has been in session for 3 weeks now. I am buried in literature and I love it! Ive been anxious lately, but I am hoping it’s something that’ll pass.

As i ventured the halls of our school ground library I came over this beautiful quote: Amor Librium nos unit: the love of books unites us.

I think about it daily.

-📖: Floodtide of Fate by Olav Duun

-🎧: Dangerous thing by Aurora

-🍿: The Holdovers

(watch this movie if you’re in for a 2024, 70s-made, wholesome, academic movie! I really loved it!)

Until next time,

Martie

A slow week …

I’ve been pretty much sick the whole week and today was the only seminar I could attend to: so again from tomorrow I’ve nothing to do except studying in my little room ^^;

📖Studies📖

- Linguistics: Words, metaphors and metanomy

- Literature: history and criteria of short stories and essays

🌼Life🌼

Hello spring! It’s finally sunny outiside again! I live in Norway so I haven’t seen the sun properly since August last year hahah … I’ve tried to live my life recently as analogue as I can: I’ve listened to my favourite songs on cassette through Walkmans, deleted all social media apps (except Tumblr) to stop myself from scrolling and reading during the idle minutes of my everyday life. It’s been great!

It makes me think of wanting to write letters to people (I don’t have anyone I could write letters to) but I would love to have penpals again.

Until next time~

Authors and the publishing market really, REALLY gotta figure out something to do with the YA section.

YA (young adult) in book-marketing is books marketed for age 12-18.

Spice should not be in the same book section as books for 12 year olds! That’s crazy! Another section should be made especially for MATURE YA!

A lot of people say “yeah but YA is actually for age 16-20 or 18-20”, but this doesn’t matter. The BOOK-marketing has set YA for age 12-18.

Exam, life, December …

I’ve been busy again, sorry! Just finished my exam in general linguistics and I felt that it went well! I started writing a little novel as well, when I feel the need to sit back, relax and daydream✨ It’a coming of age fantasy store that I hope will inspire a lot of young people!

Gosh I love December! The snow falls outside my window, gentle and playful and covers the land in white.✨🎄☕️

Today I’ll be working on my literature and Norse language exam! And this week I have a lot of doctor’s appointments … wish me luck in everything🫶🏻

A trip to the capital.

Good book, cold weather and excellent coffee, this trip was a very cozy one! We stayed at an old hotel from 1900s which at the time was used as a jazz cafe where musicians, authors and creators alike met to enjoy a nice atmosphere.

It was a nice trip, and now I am back again to focus on my upcoming exam in linguistics… it feels wierd; to have traveled for a weekend, experience new things and then to come back to the same old routines again. Back to school. Back to stuDYING.

Nov. 14th

A well-needed cozy day at home.

Coffee, cats, cafe jazz and Harry Potter. What could be better to wind down with? Today I turned in my 1000words long assignment on nordic language and sociolinguistics. Then I have another assignment ’til Sunday in Norse language and exam in linguistics on Nov. 29th.

I am so excited for December to come, when I can wind down a little with my last two finals and be overjoyed with winter, jule and cozy-reads!

How are you all surviving November??

Chaplin on theater, plaid skirt and early cold mornings at uni - what a time to be alive!

I got my assignment results: 38points of 40 possible! I am honestly just happy I passed with such a good score! Super nervous for the upcoming exam this month.

Wish me good luck people🫶🏻

I’ve been busy,

Happy hallows eve! Tomorrow is November, officially winter: the cold stings as I leave my house in the morning at 6am. It’s getting too cold for stockings soon, but I am not ready to give up my skirt-based fashion. It’s getting darker too: I wake up before the sun and goes to bed long after she has. Streetlights shine in the dark: there’s something romantic about that too I suppose. November will be an even more hectic month for me, in 3 weeks I have due 4 assignments and lectures everyday from 8am - 4pm.

I am tired.

Until next time, Martie

Language studies✨

Finally weekend! Honestly: studying linguistics is so hard, it looks as if math and language had a baby, but it can be very fun and romantic as well. I have a love-hate relationship with it. One of my teachers said very romantically “I just love language and literature, it’s, ah, wonderful”, so I hold that quote exactly dear. I too think it’s wonderful to be able to immerse myself in this. Anyways; I have another assignment due next Friday. Got so much reading to do…

Until then, Martie

Why do people say “don’t worry, it was just a dream”? Such a degrading word for what I’ve experienced in another plane… I was there as my emotions crumbled: I screamed but no one listened, I held you in my arms as you took your last breath, I felt a knife to my heart, I bled out, dying, all the same, even in a dream.

I will wake up carry scars and emotional damage that no one understands. I cannot find comfort waking up as if nothing happened. Because to me, it did. “Don’t worry, it was just a dream.”

It’s sad how books are no longer the work of art that it was supposed to, but a media for mass production to feed the ever-hungry consumerism. We feed and feed, and are never satisfied, the source is dry now. More and more, always hungry. The works are no longer of quality, no longer art, just something to entertain ourselves: flipped idly through with idle thoughts.

Uni, literature, coffee and theatre💌☕️

I’ve had the busiest weeks! Assignments after assignments: it’s been a rare treat to enjoy literature for the sake of enjoyment. I am currently reading Song For Eirabu: a nordic fantasy. I’ve been playing video games when I can, hooked on Baldur’s Gate (and yes, it IS that good, in case you were wondering). Next week I’ll have some day off, can’t wait!

Until next time,

Martie
