(Note: hypothetical “you”)

I’ve listened to why a lot of people use GhatGPT and not once have I made the opinion that using that is helpful or beneficial. I hate ChatGPT and I will continue to hate it: if you want good grades, all you have to do is work. And if you don’t want to work, then you don’t deserve good grades.

I see so many dark academia mood boards with the same novels over and over again: always the newer books like Babel, The Secret History, If We Were Villains, Invisible Life of Addie Larue. You can do better, let’s spice up them dark academia books with actually dark academia (meaning we go back to the classics): Odessey, Iliad, Picture of Dorian Grey, Kafka, Dostoyevsky, Maurice, Stoner, Wordsworth. To name a few. We have soo many authors and books that really dots the i’s in dark academia.

obsessed with mass market paperbacks. their pleasing rectangular proportions. how they fit badly in a hoodie pocket so you can drag them around everywhere with you like a temporary little buddy. the way they fit in your hand because they're MADE for human hands and not as bookshelf decoration. the way the pages feel when you riffle them gently with your thumb. How pristine and crisp they look when you get them and how creased and folded they look when you're done, even if you try to be nice to them. how that wear is okay, how that's correct actually, because they're made with the philosophy that books aren't meant to be PRETTY, they're meant to be read. that little ripple new ones get on the left side from where you hold them when you're reading, the way the ripple only goes as far as you've read, because u change stories by reading as they are changing you. how you can find thousands of these creased and folded and loved little dudes in every thrift store and used book shop and neighborhood library and you can instantly see the ones that someone carried around in a backpack for weeks or read to pieces or gave up on halfway through because they wear being read like fresh snow wears footprints. I love these poorly made, subpar little rectangles so much. truly the people's books.

Nobody understands the bond between a girl and the mediocre book she read when she was 13 years old.

I internally lament that I don't interact with Booklr enough, even though that's on me. So now I'm curious. Is your current read:

If you are inclined, reblog this and tell us about your book! I may add additional polls because why not, but let's start with this for now!

I am currently reading Wuthering Heights and Gylvaginning: the Gylvaginning is the Norse tale of how the world was born and the homes of the different species and Gods was made. Both are for class✨

🔹 Someone else's fiction cannot cause you physical harm.

🔹If someone else's fiction is causing you emotional or psychological harm, or distress, you can put it down and not read/watch it.

🔹Your emotional well-being is not the responsibility of fiction writers.

🔹Someone else's fiction is not about your personal trauma.

🔹When reading or watching fiction, you always have the power. You can always stop. You are never reading fiction without your own consent.

🔹Fiction writers are not responsible for other people's mental health.

🔹The content of a piece of fiction does not reflect on the morality of its author.

🔹Just because someone writes about bad things happening, doesn't mean they want those things to happen.

🔹Don't like? Don't read.

-a writer's only job is to tell their story. they have no responsibility to you for how it makes you feel. you chose to consume the story. so those are your feelings that you need to take ownership of.

-discomfort is not the same as harm and acclimating yourself via fiction to strongly unpleasant emotions such as sorrow, indignation, and disgust will make you stronger and healthier

-however if you are repeatedly triggering yourself by engaging with media that makes you miserable you should probably recognize that it's up to you to stop hurting yourself

Back to school - tips & essentials for getting organised

I’ve studied a lot. I have a bachelors degree in law and started my bachelor’s in Nordic language and linguistics last year. Now the school is back and I am here to help you get settled, because starting up can be … a lot and it’s easy to get overwhelmed.

Essentials

- apps w/ notification for your to do list (update this every week and plan your next week on Sundays) This is especially important if you’re an ADHD girlie like me~

- Synced calendar with your uni: this way you know when and where you have a lecture.

- Pens, sticky notes, folders, papers, highlights and so on.

When you’ve acquired everything you need, here’s what you’ll do to stay in touch with everything:

Tips

- If you’re studying literature or you have to read a lot, I recommend putting post its on all your books (or papers) with your due date and stack them in a to be read pile like this:

That way you always know what to read for when you’d need it: this has helped me a lot!💃🏼

Remember to keep up with you email and your student website as well through notifications! I hope my tips and tricks for getting you organised has helped you and if you have any questions starting up studying and / or generally about studying, feel free to message my inbox!🫶🏻

Lots of good luck!🫶🏻
