One of the most underrated things about Harry Potter (the character, not the series as a whole) is that the kid with absolute shit eyesight is a prodigy at spotting a tiny golden ball flitting around in a field that’s like five hundred feet wide. What a little legend he is.
“Hermione took out a list of subjects and titles she had decided to search while Ron strode off down a row of books and started pulling them off the shelves at random. Harry wandered over to the Restricted Section.”
Okay but this is legit a summary of how the trio works: Hermione is methodical and organised, Ron is “fuck this I’m winging it #yolo”, and Harry looks for something illegal to do.
everyone talks about the time harry killed snape with the “no need to call me sir professor” line but can we not forget about the time mcgonagall ended umbridge when she said "he has achieved high marks in all Defence Against the Dark Arts tests set by a competent teacher" because like … . that’s iconic
did anyone ever tell Sirius that Hermione set Snape on fire bc I feel like that would be a bonding moment
evil ginny, evil luna, and evil hermione would take over the world in like 3 seconds flat
Moral of the secret history is to stay in ur fuckin lane Richard shoulda just let them conjugate their greek verbs incorrectly tbh
Don’t pity the dead, harry. Pity your middle child and the name you saddled him with.
Okay but can you imagine how important the Triwizard Tournament must have been to Fleur? It’s probably safe to say that all her life the thing that people noticed about her first, or even possibly the only thing they noticed about her, was her beauty. The veela in her, and not the Fleur in her. Now, finally, she’s being recognized for her skill as a witch. She is chosen as the only female participant in the tournament from among countless entrants from her school, boys and girls (side-eyes the movies), and she worked hard for this. It must have been such an amazing feeling to know that, finally, she can be recognized for something other than just her beauty. I can’t help but feel like she wanted this more than any of the others chosen because there was so much more at stake for her, and I can’t imagine how crushing it must have been for her when she began to fall behind. Even so, she didn’t let herself be disheartened by it, and I think that speaks to her true character more than anything. Fleur Delacour is so much more than just another pretty face.
reasons the harry potter universe is fucked up #82932: there is the ghost of a murdered child in the bathroom and everyone treats it like a minor inconvenience
I think my favorite discrepancy between the Rogue One promo material and the actual film is that the promos make it look like this was a very carefully put together team and in reality it’s a bunch of people that Cassian Andor more or less kidnapped.
more than five years have gone by since i first finished the harry potter series and i’m still baffled as to why albus dumbledore was not in slytherin
the only thing bigger than newt scamander’s suitcase is newt scamander’s heart
christmas time is harry potter time sorry i don’t make the rules
When you think about it, the Blacks were pretty impressive:
Narcissa Malfoy (nee Black) - safeguarded her own thoughts for months around the Dark Lord. She was never officially a Death Eater. I suspect her heart was always with her family first. Unfortunately, her husband and sister were devoted to the cause. She was a skilled duelist and held her family together during one of the most difficult periods of the war.
Andromeda Tonks (nee Black) - She was loyal to her own sense of right and her husband. She stood on her own two feet and survived the whispers about how much she and Bellatrix looked alike. She taught her daughter to fight for what she believed in. She survived her daughter and husband and raised her own grandson. (Though, I’m sure the Potters, Weasleys, and others were also right there for her.)
Bellatrix Lestrange (nee Black) sat chained during her trial as if it were a throne. She was described as having prodigious skill and no conscience. A 10+ year stint in Azkaban didn’t dull her effectiveness. She was one of the last standing before Voldemort fell the final time.
Regulus Black - Joined the Death Eaters at the age of 16. He realized Voldemort needed to be stopped. He also cared about Kreacher enough to listen to the house elf when the Dark Lord used and nearly killed the house elf to hide the locket. Regulus sacrificed his life to try and end Voldemort.
“Fight, fight for my master, the defender of the House elves. Fight the Dark Lord, in the name of brave Regulus! Fight!”–Kreacher
Sirius Black - By age 16 , he was an Animagus, fiercely loyal to his friends and had already left his family. He, like his cousin Bellatrix, had the mental fortitude to survive Azkaban. He retained enough of his powers to escape on his own. He was also a match for Bellatrix Lestrange during the Battle of the Department of Mysteries despite months of hiding and battling depression. (Sidenote: If Sirius had been at full health and less reckless, I imagine the duel with his cousin would’ve been even more impressive.)
Alphard Black- He helped Sirius out and was blasted off the family tree. If nothing else, I’m seeing love and passion as a Black family trait.
Draco Malfoy (Half Black, Half Malfoy) Skilled flyer, figured out or had help fixing a broken vanishing cabinet, learned Occulmency from his Aunt and possibly his mother, Imperio-ed Madame Rosmerta and Katie Bell, and he was clever even if it was hidden under his snark and less appealing qualities.
Nymphadora Tonks- As a skilled Auror, she survived multiple duels with Death Eaters fighting for the Order. She loved just as fiercely and loyally as her mother loved her father, or her Aunt Narcissa loved her family or her Aunt Bellatrix obsessed over the cause and the Dark Lord.
Multiple Blacks played a part in defeating Voldemort: Regulus- Spirited the locket away from it’s hiding place Sirius- Fought in the Order, partially mentored Harry, and would’ve been proud of younger brother if he had known the truth behind his death. Andromeda-supported the Order, safe-housed the Golden Trio, raised Nymphadora Tonks-Proud member of the Order (sacrificed by J.K. Rowling so that Arthur could live). Narcissa- Chose family over crazy, power-hungry, racist, leader. Phineas Black’s Portrait- Helped the Golden Trio
