kill 'character did nothing wrong'. nurture 'character did everything wrong and i was whooping and cheering the whole time'
general zhang and ouyang should have gotten together post-esen... general zhang would have treated him so right
dude you look so masc wallowing in your misery like that
my modern au is also
ouyang: we're doomed we're so over if i am the iceberg he is the solid ship that is too sure of its fatal path and sees only the beauty of the fog that hinders his vision and seals his death and if he is the flame i am the moth drawn terribly into that brilliant light and we are like two planets in orbit spinning on eternal trajectories closer and closer and our collision will bring nothing but destruction, pain, suffering that will mark the cosmos forever, we are fixed we are so over we're SO doomed
esen: i think ouyang smiled at me today with his eyes ^_^
kind of obsessed with my dad's friend who apparently goes back to being a Buddhist whenever he gets a divorce
[gets divorced] Alright, that's it! No more worldly desire! [sees another beautiful woman] Well... unless?
I love that it’s apparently happened enough times that it’s a cycle. Almost like…
official callout post for he who drowned the world this book broke into my house wrecked my furniture stole my car killed my cat emptied my bank account y’all stay safe out there
It's a unique type of frustration when you agree that a character is deeply flawed but other people keep missing what's actually wrong with them and assigning them new flaws that they don't even have it's like free my man he did none of that. He did a bunch of other shit tho.
btw it’s time to reread She Who Became the Sun…
It was all perfect: everything he needed, dished up on a plate. It was perfect because his fate was inescapable, and it would happen no matter what he thought or felt or did.
— The Radiant Emperor by Shelley Parker-Chan
the people mad about ouyang/esen in the swbts tag are so funny like sorrrrrrry the pairing that ended really tragically has more fix it fanfic than the pairing that is canon, is still together, had a lot of cute scenes together, and will probably be heavily featured in the upcoming book 😭 our bad guys!
Screaming crying etc etc
It's here and it's stunning
The cover of SWBTS was masculine—sun, fire, gold, yang—so He Who Drowned the World is feminine: moon, water, darkness, yin. We all know the special contempt the world has for effeminate men, so this is the story of someone who, after a lifetime of being spat upon, is here to slay
it still comes as a surprise that closeness cannot be achieved from a safe distance
This book is going to destroy me
