"A group of four CTA 4000 series cars (S-370, S-357 4256 and 4322) spent a good part of 1983 sitting in the Northwestern's Weber Yard in Skokie. Apparently they were turned over to the Northwestern for movement to some trolley museum but something happened and this was as far as they got."

“It's March 22, 1980, and the Rock Island has nine days left before it passes into history. Looks like E8 653 isn't going to make it to the end, as it sits in Blue Island yard, battered, bruised, and bare. . . “

Apparently they were turned over to the Northwestern for movement to some trolley museum but something happened and this was as far as they got. Someone no doubt has the full story. The car seen here had become separated from the other three, derailed off the end of a spur.”

"Muncie & Western boxcar 1365 has been converted to a storage shed and sits in a Chicago scrapyard at 119th & Ashland. Go there today looking for this car and you won't have a prayer (hint!)."

“This pair of Illinois Central ‘lowliners’ was converted into a snowplow set following the Blizzard of 79, but languished around the system unused until finally scrapped. Seen here at the 83rd St. yard near the end of its days.”

“You’re looking at some fine South Suburban grunge from back in May of 1975. Sure doesn’t look like May, does it? No green grass, no bright blue skies, no birds, except maybe for a couple of dead starlings. And in the middle of it all is the Rock Island’s final idea of commuter travel. A red and yellow E8 followed by a couple of matching bi-levels. They must have looked really good when they were new, but in the grimy conditions they worked in, they never had a chance.”
