"A pair of SD40-2s in Death Star scheme. Orange and white would have been much better. The raised Bascule is the B&OCT bridge over the South Branch of the Chicago River and barely visible through the trees next to it is the Bascule bridge of the St. Charles Air Line in the lowered position."

“In 1969 the Illinois Central still had a robust passenger service, and the Seminole was the secondary train on the Chicago-Florida route. The IC ran it to Birmingham and the Central of Georgia took it from there to Jacksonville. As is pretty obvious here, it was a mostly coach train, and it ran on timing that was opposite that of the more luxurious (meaning sleepers, lounge, and diner) City of Miami that went all the way to its namesake city. I believe the Atlantic Coast Line carried it from Jacksonville to Miami after the Florida East Coast quit running it between those two points.”

Type Gs and GP10s by The Mastadon Via Flickr: “A pair of Illinois Central GP10s approaching Lumber Street in Chicago after delivering a transfer to the Burlington Northern. Passing a nice set of long-gone US&S Type G signals, the old IC geeps make a great sight in downtown Chicago.”

Illinois Central Electric in South Chicago, July 1960.

“The South Shore Country Club (today the South Shore Cultural Center) at 71st and South Shore, is visible at left. At right is the station at 71st and Exchange, and check out that crossing tower; the stumps of many of these towers remain in place along the branch today. The IC South Chicago branch, along with the other IC Electric lines, continue in service into the present day as part of the Metra commuter rail system.”

(Also note signs for Standard Oil, Sinclair Gasoline, and Motorola radio and television)

“Four 1977 photos at Weldon Yard, there were several strings of old 1920's IC MU cars ready to be hauled away for scrap. Things like pilots, headlights and pantographs had been taken off and the ends of each string had a standard knuckle coupler installed in place of the automatic air/electric coupler. Taken with my mom's 126 Instamatic camera.”

“Things look just as they should with Illinois Central E8A 4028 and E9A 4039 getting serviced at Central Station in Chicago, but this slide is from Nov 1971, so this is an Amtrak scene and pretty much everything in this pic will be gone in the next few years.”

“The ICRR was detouring over the B&OCT from Harvey, IL to Riverdale, IL. My father, John T. Eagan, Sr., was conductor on this job. I was working at Wyman-Gordon and by phone we arranged for me to take a picture of him going under the WG pedestrian bridge in Harvey.” Photo by John Eagan on 5/30/1975

"We're on the IC's Iowa Freeport division; it's June 1974; I'm at Army Trail Road [old Cloverdale IL] with train C.C one of two east bounds early morning. Today this location is so built up. Long gone is the signalman's house at the far left and Army Trail Road is double lane and farm land is all built up and this is part of the CN."
