From Classic Trains: “Santa Fe PA1s 75L and 78L hustle train 23, a nameless three-car remnant of the Grand Canyon, up Edelstein Hill west of Chillicothe, Ill., on Feb. 10, 1968. F.C. “Buck” Dumaine Jr. and the Delaware & Hudson saved the PA from extinction.”

"Santa Fe eastbound freight approaches Joliet Union Depot behind U28cg, two GP38 (7904....) The ‘in your face’ effect is the result of a 300mm mirror lens. I was working at a camera store and the boss offered it for me to try out. I'm sure it was hand held. The 7904 was one of the ‘U28cg’ units equipped with steam generators for passenger service; with not quite a year before Amtrak was to take over, I'm sure the Santa Fe was glad to find other work for them (as was probably the plan all along.)”

"A little Santa Fe to start out the new year. We find a southbound running hard and fast on the old New York Central Danville Secondary, or the ‘Egyptian Line’ as it was called back in April of 1981. At this time, Conrail owned the line and this Santa Fe train was headed to the Streator Connection, where it would get on home rails and head west. We see him here at St John, just about to cross the old Monon.”

Trick or treat by Onthebell Via Flickr: “A battle worn warbonnet toaster cools it heels after leading CSX train Q173 (North Baltimore, OH to Chicago, IL, BNSF run thru stacks) to the windy city on Halloween afternoon. It's seen here at CP-258 on the Harbor in Bridgeview, Illinois. The train awaits its BNSF crew to take it onto home rails at McCook Jct.”
