“A classic commuter scene at the Rock Island Vermont Street station in Blue Island, Illinois,  October 1976. Check out those stylish 70's rides waiting to pick up people from the train!”

Both cars and the locomotive are General Motors products: Chevy Impala, Olds Ninety Eight, EMD F7.

"It looks like one of those fine July afternoons at Santa Fe's Corwith yard, as Lonnie Maves documents General Motors 1966 built ATSF SD40 5004 basking in the warm sun, along with his 77' Chevrolet Impala Coupe."

“On September 17, 1989, EMD held an Open House at their LaGrange, IL locomotive plant. There were many interesting locomotives on display, one of the most interesting was EMD FT 103.”

Chicago Rock Island & Pacific Railroad LWT-12 2 at the Rocket House around 47th Street in Chicago, Illinois on March 28, 1965. Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler.

Built in August 1955 as EMD 1001 ( c/n 21464 ) on EMD Order 9002, it was one of two demonstrators the EMD fielded, this one operated on the NYC for several months in 1956 between Cleveland, Ohio and Chicago, Illinois in revenue runs. . . .  Returned to EMD, it and demonstrator 1000 were sold to the Rock Island, ending their days in commuter service.

Transferred from the Chicago-Peoria run to suburban service in 1957, these really would have been something interesting to ride, especially on less than optimal track! They were out of service by 1966. Locomotive 3 and two of its cars are preserved today at the Museum of Transport near St. Louis, and another is at the museum in Greenbay, Wisconsin.”

At the EMD Plant in McCook, IL on October 6, 1962.

Caption: "EMD 105 was a DH2, a SW8 modified as a diesel-hydraulic for demonstration purposes. Later, and in the photo, it was converted to a standard diesel-electric with traction motors and no drive shafts and was serving as an EMD plant switcher."

1, 2, and 3: “W&A 3 4-4-0, the General, and a L&N combine were on display. The combine is clearly a Jim Crow car. Two sections divided by a baggage area.”

4: “EMD's 25,000th locomotive was L&N 1014 seen here. An AT&SF gas-electric car is in the background.”

5: “EMD GP30 demonstrator 5639.”
