Chi Vibes by Carlos Ferran Via Flickr: (Chi)cago vibes that is. Though 16th St. is near the edge of Chinatown, the other meaning (Qi) works too. Leaving the concrete canyon of Near South Side behind, CN 2169 slowly negotiates CN M337 over the now single tracked 16th St. interlocking bound for the Freeport Sub.
Hottest of the hot by Mike Danneman Via Flickr: Powered by a quartet of Super Fleet GE B40-8Ws, Santa Fe’s 199 train, the hottest in a fleet of hot intermodal trains, barrels through Ancona, Illinois, at 4:00 p.m. on May 9, 1992.
79 years old. by Eric Via Flickr: “This GE 65-tonner, 502, was built in April 1941 as Nekoosa-Edwards Paper Co. 8. It is now performing switching duties at Joe Behr scrap metal in Rockford, Illinois. It was pulling out of cut of empties that was distributed throughout the complex. After many years of trying, I finally got this in use.”

CNW 8704 west in Northlake, Illinois on March 14, 1995. by Eric Via Flickr: “WKJRX with a pair of fairly new C44-9W's (8704,8717) passes Grand Avenue on the very north side of Proviso. This hopper train is crossing over from 2-1 (New Line sub) and will traverse down 30-main to HM then head west on Geneva sub. No one bothered me up here, now forget it!! The CNW style searchlight and station sign are long gone as are the CNW dash 9's. The AWFUL take over by Union Pacific was about one month away.”
“South Shore Line 801 is about to meet its demise as it awaits the torch at Hymen-Michaels scrap yard in Chicago in June of 81.”
