“CB&Q SD9 #348 is attached to another SD9 near the engine house. Since so many of these units spent time around the part of the BN where I worked, and since many wore this paint scheme in the ‘Q’ days, a well lit photo of one seems appropriate. It looks a bit ragged, but the ‘Q’ hauled a lot of freight with these in the ‘EVERYWHERE WEST’ country.”

DMIR SD9 147 Bensenville, Illinois_JEL by James Lewnard Via Flickr: Caption: “In late 1971 the Milwaukee Road was in the midst of a motive power crisis. I called a crew for Dubuque one day that refused two sets of F units before the hostlers were able to assemble a working engine consist. The Milwaukee leased PC Alco RS27s and C425s, and then turned to the EJ&E and DM&IR for power. On November 20th, 1971, DM&IR SD9 147 and two EJ&E SD9s wait for an assignment at the Bensenville, Illinois engine house.”
