The north-west bound commuter train is about to cross Hwy 173 coming into downtown Richmond on the Lake Geneva sub division. Within a year in Aug 1980 the last commuter train would come into Richmond ending all passenger service near Lake Geneva." Photo by Mark L Lanuza

Caption: "It's Aug 1st 1980 and the Lake Geneva line sees its very last commuter train crossing over Route 173 pull into the Richmond station." The current Metra Union Pacific Northwest line that ends at the McHenry station used to go all the way to Lake Geneva and Williams Bay, and had a stop in Richmond. Today the tracks are long gone, replaced (partially) by a hike/bike path. Richmond, Illinois Photo by Mark L Lanuza

Chicago & North Western train at the Austin station. This station was located on the south side of Lake St. between Central Ave. and Park Ave. (now Parkside Ave.), on the north side of the tracks. It was closed along with a number of other stations by the C&NW in 1958. The CTA Austin station is nearby.

CNW St Charles before 1998 and after 2013 GP-38 by Mark LLanuza on Flickr.
Caption: “It’s the end of the line for the former CGW main line. We’re looking east at the Fox River in St Charles 1998 with CNW GP-38 leading the way with a good size Frt. In Sept 2013 they started to remove the tracks that was deep in weeds and mud to make it a bike path. There wasn’t a train over the bridge in almost five years and the UP RR got permission to remove the line.”
Caption: “It’s Sept 1974 in downtown Lake Geneva Wis looking southeast at the CNW commuter yard just north of the Lake Geneva train. I went there again at the same location. The only two buildings still standing are the very far right side in the background and the building on the left side. The streets were added after the tracks were removed and many trees have grown and a new lumber yard.”

The train takes the Northwest commuter line to Deval Jct where it would get on to the CNW “New Line” to KO jct where it would cross onto the CNW North Line (Shoreline) at Lake Bluff for the rest of trip.
