After days and days of depression, exhaustion, and sluggish progress, re-imagined Tikbalang (finally) done! It's amazing how light can change the look of your art. The first photo was taken last night, under yellow light. The second one was taken earlier, with natural daylight. Same drawing, different lighting conditions. Can't wait to see how this looks like when scanned! 😄
Here's my reimagined take on the Bakunawa, a dragon/serpent that is said to cause eclipses, according to Filipino folklore.
Unlike the previous designs I made for my personal project (Project Re:Imagine), this one's design is more driven by my webcomic, The Propaganda Project -BETA- (tapastic.com/series/The-Propaganda-Project--BETA) ...However, it's still on hiatus, so... OTL
_________ Watercolour pencils and inks on paper
Project Re:Imagine taken on a traditional level, (because I'm still working my ass off on getting a goddamned computer, lol) featuring the 'mambabarang,' a kind of sorcerer from Philippine mythology that can put a curse on its victim. Wiki: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barang_(Visayan_word) The design is a rehash of an artwork I did a year or so back: http://maou-maoxd.deviantart.com/art/Summoning-Night-507668301 More Project Re:Imagine here: http://maou-maoxd.deviantart.com/gallery/53535540/Project-ReImagine
The Kataw is one of the merfolk in Philippine mythology, particularly, in the Visayas. It is said to be ranked higher among other sea creatures, such as the Sirena and Siyokoy. Unlike them, however, the Kataw bears more human-like features, only with gills and fins on their bodies.
"A steel giant that lurks in trees made of concrete. It huffs smoke to protect itself from enemies."
Last month was hectic... and so is this month! Ai yah!
Thankfully, I have a one-week break before the next event, so I'm taking this chance to finish moar pending art, yeah!
This one is my re-imagined version of the Kapre, a giant in Philippine mythology which dwells in trees (literal trees) and smokes tobacco.
I'll be using this as well for my other project, like the first one I did for
Project Re:Imagine
Tragic Marionette
"Is it alive, or is it just a windup doll mindlessly moving until it stops?"
Drawn on paper, coloured/rendered in Photoshop
"To the tune of roaring seas and howling winds, ghosts dance under the winter moon. Come. Join us in this night banquet."

The Illusionist II
"Illusions are wonderful, beautiful lies that can turn bitterness to sweetness."
This is actually a re-hash of a character design I did three years ago.... Also art style pratice... ;u; I drew this one without the outlines

I played around with the style and coloring for no reason at all, in this illustration of a random spunky ninja-samurai girl, lol. Traditional sketch + ink and digital coloring + rendering combo. It's been so long since I last inked a sketch, traditionally. I usually leave it pencil-sketched because I like the look and feel of it.
Antagonist concept

Art style experiment again~ Kinda um... "enhanced" my default drawing style...?
I wanted to do something productive last Sunday, so I doodled and did a bit of an experiment(?) But I finished the entire drawing the day after, because Sunday.
Doodle before I snooze~
From this point on, this original character will be my test subject for experimenting on art styles, lol. I based off the style and animation (minus the derp hair animation I'm sorry OTL) on this fanart that I also did, albeit the fanart's simpler.
Unused environment concept art for a game development project.
