he’s  not  surprised  at  all  by  her  reaction  ,  brows  rising  slightly  as  humor  surfaces  on  his  features  .  “i  don’t  think  that’s  necessary”  speaks  uselessly  ,  had  known  the  brunette  long  enough  to  know  she  would  do  it  anyway  .  “you  know  they  aren’t  really  interested  in  me,  right  ?”  shifts  him  position  in  bed  ,  bringing  the  phone  up  to  film  his  entire  face  .  “they’re  only  trying  to  get  better  shifts  ,  they  always  do  that  when  the  holidays  start  approaching”  as  if  he  was  the  one  making  those  decisions  and  as  if  batting  eyelashes  and  pouting  their  lips  would  work  on  him  —  with  anyone  other  than  vera  ,  anyway  .  “why  is  cosimo  telling  you  this  shit  anyway  ?  don’t  you  two  have  better  things  to  talk  about  ?” 

deep  exhale  is  pushed  through  his  mouth  ,  he  knows  she’s  right  and  truly  ,  he  shouldn’t  be  picking  a  fight  when  they  had  been  having  such  a  great  night  so  far  .  but  it  was  too  late  for  that  thought  now  .  “you’re  not  the  one  i’m  worried  about  ,  princess”  pet  name  escapes  brims  as  digits  trace  her  jawline  ,  pushing  a  strand  of  hair  behind  her  ear  .  “if  he  tries  to  talk  to  you  again  ,  just  leave  it  to  me  ,  okay  ?”  it  was  too  late  now  ,  truly  .  the  other  male  was  trying  to  get  a  rise  out  of  him  and  ,  clearly  ,  he  wasn’t  able  to  hide  his  jealousy  as  well  as  he  imagined  .  “  let’s  just  play  ,  okay  ?  i’m  getting  you  that  big  bear”

gaze  jumps  between  him  and  the  subject  of  his  question  ,  crease  surfacing  between  brows  when  she  turns  back  to  face  him  .  “danny  ?”  questions,  smile  lingering  on  her  features  .  “he’s  a  friend  ,  he  has  a  son  .  rosie  has  playdates  with  him  sometimes  “  their  daughter  ,  a  small  voice  screams  inside  her  head  again  .  they  hadn’t  truly  gotten  into  the  subject  yet  ,  she  had  to  tell  him  and  she  would  .  when  the  time  was  right  or  whenever  an  opening  appeared  ,  at  least  that’s  what  she  was  promising  herself  most  of  the  days  .  “he’s  really  nice  ,  he’s  picked  up  her  from  school  a  few  times  for  me  when  work—  “  a  pause  cause  ,  god  ,  she  was  rambling  again  .  “he’s  a  friend  ,  that’s  all”  she  settles  on  it  ,  nodding  at  herself  as  cheeks  heat  up  .  “i’m  not—    i  don’t  have  time  for  that  ,  anyway”

short  and  obvious  answer  was:  yes  ,  for  far  too  long  until  he  finally  realized  .  but  ,  of  course  ,  that’s  not  what  she  says  .  “what  are  you  talking  about  ?”  forehead  wrinkles  with  portrayed  confusion  ,  though  she  can’t  hide  the  slight  curve  of  her  lips  .  “you  know  i  have  a  job  to  get  done  ,  i’m  simply  doing  that”  shrugs  her  shoulders  ,  body  fully  turned  in  his  direction  now  ,  abandoning  whatever  conversation  she  had  picked  up  with  the  male  by  the  counter  .  “i  don’t  see  why  you  would  have  reason  to  be  jealous  though  ,  you  know  this  is  what  i  do”  for  fun  ,  usually  ,  or  when  desperately  needing  to  feel  something  .  but  tonight  ,  all  her  reasons  started  and  ended  with  him  . 

watching  the  male  behind  her  for  another  moment  ,  her  words  glued  to  his  brain  even  if  he  doesn’t  reply  instantly  .  it  was  a  power  play  and  he  was  losing  ,  of  course  ,  as  he  always  did  when  it  came  to  her  .  “you  know  why  i’m  worried”  mutters  under  his  teeth  ,  gaze  finally  moving  to  her  figure  ,  eyes  pleading  for  her  to  pick  up  what  he’s  letting  on  .  had  never  enjoyed  the  company  of  her  friends  too  much  but  especially  after  everything  had  happened  ,  the  crowd  she  insisted  on  having  around  her  was  destructive  ,  to  say  the  least  .  and  he  feared  she  was  always  the  one  catching  the  damages  .  “i’ll  take  you  home  ,  he  can  walk  you  to  the  car  if  you  need  his  presence  that  badly”  basically  spits  it  ,  orders  he’s  not  allowed  to  give  and  yet  ,  there  was  no  way  he’d  allow  her  to  walk  away  with  the  male  —  for  more  reasons  than  he’d  ever  be  allowed  to  admit  to  her  . 

eyes  roll  upward  as  grin  continues  to  wide  against  her  features  ,  toying  with  his  gun  as  it  was  nothing  more  than  that  —  a  child’s  object  to  be  tossed  around  .  “i’m  not  gonna  do  anything  stupid  ,  i  just  want  to  scare  some  people”  shrugs  her  shoulders  ,  gaze  focused  on  him  before  it  shifts  to  her  hands  ,  positioning  for  attack  and  aiming  to  the  wall  as  laughter  bubbles  from  her  throat  .  “see?  i’m  practically  a  natural  ,  it’s  in  my  blood”  a  both  soothing  and  haunting  truth  .  she  sighs  ,  at  least  ,  waving  her  hands  defensively  before  moving  closer  to  the  male  .  “i  wouldn’t  actually  do  anything  with  it,”  she  offers  the  gun  back,  humor  still  shining  through  her  eyes  as  she  meets  his  again.  “i  don’t  hate  you  that  much,  damien”
