How unhappy is your happiness?

Somehow in early 2013 with a Doctor Who RP account on tumblr, I followed someone who matched well with the character I was portraying. We were talking out of character in the tags of our threads to then move them privately to tumblr mails and asks. Early 2014, we exchanged phone numbers and began to talk on WhatsApp. In March of that year, we had our first video call over Skype which started a weekly routine. July 2014 we became boyfriend and girlfriend despite the ongoing Skype technical difficulties. We talked about the possibility of seeing each other physically during school vacation. While resistance came from my parents end, they agreed to pick you up and stay in my home (in separate rooms). 18th October 2014, I tackled you outside the airport and then threw you into our family’s minivan. We spent five days together as I had you meet family members and had some New York City adventures. The day before you left, we were dancing in my bedroom to the cast recording of American Idiot and I broke down in tears over the end of the stay and the fear of when we could see each other physically again.

Fast forward to another twelve trips to each other, a pandemic that kept us apart for nearly two years, health issues with ourselves and family members, deaths of my mom and childhood pets, graduating colleges, hiring a lawyer for the immigration process, getting approved for the visa and moving out of my childhood home, getting sick multiple times in the first year we lived together, a leak underneath our floor which led to our wall being broken open for two and a half months before it was sealed, not having a floor to safely walk on until June of this year, doing my first trip with your family. And the so many moments in between.

18th October 2024, we got married!!! It was ten years to the day of the very first trip and Friday was the first day of the rest of our lives. We had some family members on my side who came to Europe for the very first time. There were still people missing on the day due to being unable to travel for reasons and who are no longer with us anymore. But we were able to make the most of the day and it was wonderful.

I can’t believe we made it this far. But there was something there that always knew we would. We made it work. We always do.
