Making Useless Things

Finally got around to finishing up my Dottie Angel Frock. The pattern is 1080 by Simplicity. I used version B, which is tunic length, since I didn’t have enough fabric. All in all a fun pattern. Lots of bias tape, which helps create a finished look on the inside, so that is nice. I did have to Google a few techniques that weren’t clearly outlined in the pattern. So I highly suggest this for someone who has sewn garments before. 

Of course it isn’t perfect, but for cotton quilting fabric the fit is nice and comfy. It is cute and I finished it just in time to wear in this warm Spring weather. 

I'm back to the needle and thread... well at least I was last week. Only one of two projects turn out. The first is that weird poncho/wrap thing I'm wearing. According to the wonderful tutorial I followed, I was expecting it to look a bit classier. In reality though, it just looks like I swathed myself in a few yards of fabric. I followed a video tutorial by the YouTuber WithWendy. Her videos are really cool and she is very fashion forward. Just be sure to follow her tips for best fabric choice... because she knows what she is doing. I also attempted to add pockets, but like a dingus, I cut the slits to large and ended up with holes because the fabric frayed so badly. My second project was just a simple bag I threw together for a birthday gift. It isn't anything special, and I am can't remember where I found the tutorial for it (just send me an ask if you really want to know, I will try to hunt it down) But it felt good to remind myself that I can sew and not screw everything up.
