Remember when I used to knit? Lol. I still do, but I just get distracted by my pile of sewing projects sometimes.

Here is a little patchwork in progress. I am using up a lot of my flannel scraps to eventually make something with them. Mostly I just wanted to try out patchwork and see if it would drive me crazy to make enough fabric to sew a pair of shorts with... jury is still out on that one.

Yikes. Rewriting this tiny star pattern is taking ages, but hopefully now that finals are over this will be finished really soon!

I really want to have it available in my next shop update. Both as a pattern and as an item I sell! Wouldn’t that be fun :)

Making a complete mess in my mostly empty workspace. After far, far too long, I finally pulled out my Burnside Bibs pattern and got to work. It is not a complicated pattern, but there are a lot of moving parts. Also the instructions are a little bit confusing... look at the photos, read the pattern piece descriptions, and don’t sew your back pockets into one pocket, instead of the two separate pockets it is supposed to be.

Anyone else make this pattern? So far this is turning out way better than I thought it would. They also fit! Which is wonderful, because I never make a muslin, I mean who has time for that? Just need to do some finishing touches today or tomorrow :)

Day #12

What is your least favorite piece you have knit?

I have had plenty that I did not like, I usually give them away. But I think the most disappointing was Robin by Helga Isager. I finished the piece only to realize the material wasn’t quite right for the shape, the gauge was off, and I was never ever going to wear it. Since then it sits partially frogged and waiting to be reknit into a new sweater. The yarn is by Woolly Mammoth Fibre Co.

I have a finished project! It took me like a week to sew the buttons on, because you know, buttons are the hardest part. But here it is my 1970′s vintage skirt. It is a pattern by Simplicity #8019. I really thought that the skirt was going to be way to small, because I had no idea that larger sizes were sold in a separate pattern. The pattern pieces I had only went up to size 14, which made me really nervous since I was between the 14 and 16. It all worked out in the end. The waistband has just enough give that I can tuck in a t-shirt. I just need to fix the gap between the top button and the second. But that can wait until I feel like resewing buttons.

All in all, I am very happy with this! Fabric is a light blue striped linen from JoAnns.

Current sewing project is the 1080 dress by dottie Angel.

Sadly I didn’t have enough fabric, so my “dress” will be tunic length. This project has been taking me a while to finish. In reality most of the techniques are fairly simple. But the way they are worded in the instructions really makes me stop and think for a bit. So far it is turning out ok. Tonight I plan on sewing up the side seams and possibly finishing the hem. It depends on how spunky I feel.

Also I saw Avengers Endgame and now I have a lot of emotions. This week is going to be great.

I made a backpack.

This idea has been bouncing around my head since the beginning of last year. Half of the fabric is from Japan, the rest I picked up at a local quilt store. I made up most of the pattern, just going off of inspiration photos. I wanted it to be big enough to fit my drawing pad and art supplies, as well as my phone. It didn’t quite work out. It still looks great, and turned out way better then I thought it would. I look forward to giving it another try, I will just be adding an extra 1″ or more of seam allowance. Then maybe I will be able to squeeze my notepad into it :)

Hard at work on what will hopefully be my second pattern this year. I have been meaning to write and share this pattern for ages. Even if no one cares about it, it will certainly be useful for me to have laying around.

It might be a few more week before I can share the full pattern. I need some more yarn and I need to “test” knit another hat. Fingers crossed I can post it a few weeks before Christmas. Because it makes the perfect last minute gift.

Working up a fingerless glove pattern. It has been a while since I improvised a knit. It feels great to be doing it again. Although, I did forget how much brain power it takes. I hope I took good enough notes this time around and that the second glove matches. If they end up looking cool I might try to post the pattern. They are really simple and fast.

I am also actually enjoying the yarn. It is Shelter by Brooklyn Tweed in the color Newsprint.

I finished my matching winter set! I feel like a big cuddly bear when I wear it. It is like getting the best hug ever, even though I look kind of crazy wearing all of it. I am still tossing around the idea of doing leggings or leg warmers to match.

My hubby and I went out last week and took some fun photos of me wearing everything. I will post those once I get a chance to edit them.

Sweater pattern: Modified Honeycomb Aran by Patons

Scarf pattern: My own.

Mittens pattern: My own.

Hat pattern: Modified Garter Ear Flap Hat by Purl Bee

Cabled patterns are mostly from Barbara G. Walker’s Treasuries of Knitting Patterns.

Yarn: Eco Wool by Cascade Yarns (only the scarf is some thing different. Cashmere maybe?)

Still stitching away at this sweater. Cast off the bottom and moved onto the sleeves. Which I have torn out and restarted twice. I started by dropping a stitch :( I really wanted to do the sleeves in all garter stitch, but I was really struggling with laddering while working on DPNs. So I switched to a pair of 9″ circulars that my friend lent me. I still struggle with all those purl stitches. That led to the second frogging. But I am back to just the knit stitch, and things seems to be moving along so much faster.

Pattern is So Faded by Andrea Mowry. Yarn is Madeline Tosh 80|10|10 Fingering in colorway Minimal Havana Optic.

Here it is!

Ragamittens, a fingerless glove pattern.

It took me a bit longer then I thought... I almost didn’t get the chance to post it tonight. It was such a treat to get back to pattern writing though. I am really pumped to try doing a few more next year. Hopefully, find some test knitters and an editor. Because I always feel a bit bad posting a pattern that I am not 100% sure will turn out ok in everyones hands. Hence the reason I love when people ask questions or let me know if a section needs fixed. I am no expert. I just think it is a lot of fun to share!

As I mentioned in the pattern itself. These mittens were some of the first things I ever designed and knitted. I loved all my pairs dearly, and it was really interesting to revisit my original pattern and recreate them for you all.

I really hope you all enjoy. Please share with me if you make these. I would love to see them!

Thank you all for being so kind and awesome.

So... I have been working on a new pattern. I am hoping to share it very soon. It is a little present for all of you lovely people. I am basing the design off of some mittens I used to make when I first started knitting. They are a lot of fun, knit up quick, and are great for fall. I just hope I can pick up the speed with this whole pattern writing part. So I can post it to Ravelry before winter hits 😅

Current Projects: Zinone: A linen shirt. Pretty excited about this. I have never made anything summer friendly before. So it will be awesome to get to wear a hand knit item while living in Okinawa :) Random Worsted Weight Yarn: On the flip side, I have some really squishy and lovely yarn (some of it is Madeline Tosh!) I think my plan is a winter hat and some mittens, sort of 1920's inspired, because I have been watching a lot of Downton Abbey 😅

Part one of my present for my new niece Calli. All I need to do is block it and add some buttons. The second part will be a jumper, not sure if it will match... or just be similar. I haven't made a decision yet. The pattern for the sweater is Posey by Tikki Knits. This pattern was such a good investment. I will probably knit many many more. It is simple, fast and an easy pattern to follow.

My current obsession is with texture. I dove into my stitch books and am now in a deep hole. All of my on going projects mostly revolve around textured patterns. This sock for instance is just for testing out new stitches. Its pair will be similar, but I have other stitches lined up for it. I love it. Sometimes getting lost in new things is a great way to enliven your craft. Just knowing that there is so much out there that I still have to learn about knitting is so exciting.

Current work in progress: A set of cardigans for a set of twins. Using the pattern Posy by Georgie Nicolson. It is so pink and perfect, and easy to follow. I love it. Her patterns are so intensive and well designed. I definitely suggest her patterns for kids knit wear. They are really cute. Yarn is Knit Picks CotLin (cotton linen blend) in Flamingo
