It feels like it has been months since I have sat down to paint or draw. I sketched out these little watercolor pieces a few weeks ago, intending to use them as cards, but never got around to painting them. Well, I found the time, and I got to say my patience with watercolor was not there... so instead of slowly building up layers to define the details, I just scribbled over most of the pieces with a pen. I like the way they look, and I am just happy I found the motivation to make something :)
Most of my watercolor designs come in this form. I like a large piece of watercolor paper and I settle in and play around with ideas. I love how many of these turned out. Each one is scanned and edited through Photoshop into its final phase. I love that I can get multiple designs from just a few quick paintings. I am also obsessed with how these turned out. A few of the designs didn't quite make it to becoming cards - like the popcorn string with cranberries and oranges :( But I can always hold onto those and refine the designs for next year.
Also shout out to my favorite colors of watercolor: blue!
Well, I haven’t been up much knitting (although I did finish a one sock and cast on a new project) But I have been working on a lot of creative projects, as well as working almost 60 hours a week. I am still so busy, but try really hard to make time on the weekends to indulge in art and creating new work. It’s been so nice to get out on the porch while the weather is nice and explore what I can make with some water, paper and color!
A watercolor commission I finished up a few weeks ago. This piece just keeps growing on me. I am really proud with how much my skill with watercolor has grown, despite me not practicing it as much as I should. This was also a lot of fun to paint. If anyone wants fall leaves, hit me up!
New Vlog! Come hang out with me in my workspace and see what I get up to through out the week :)
This video is more than a week old, but I never shared it on here!
If you want to see how my #inktober / #peachtober drawings turned out and what I learned for them check out the video!
Want something super chill to watch? I have a new vlog up! Lot of painting and art, even a little baking. Come and hang out with me!
I am really enjoying making these shorter vlogs. Let me know what you think. Also wouldn’t hurt if you subscribe and like :)
A friend of mine gifted me this Swatch Stamp by Susan Chiang. I believe she thought I was a bit more of a watercolor enthusiast than I really am. Still, it was a really sweet gesture. And it was fun to sit down and mess around with filling a few sketchbook pages with some swatches. Honestly, I will never use this. I don’t know anything about watercolor technique. I just paint, and if it looks good then I did it. Haha! I also don’t own enough different paint (I have 14 shades all together) that warrants me needing to know how they work. But it still looks kind of cool!
Maybe I will be able to pass it on to another watercolor artists who need to catalog their large collection of paints.
Hello again,
Sorry about all this dipping in and out of posting. As usual it just isn’t one of my priorities. Especially when I don’t have any new projects or finished objects. Lucky for you (and me) I have finished a few things! And am casting on new stuff.
I officially finished #inktober, which is a sad and a relief. I am also working on a new vlog/podcast that is taking much longer to edit then I thought. I have a lot of footage (like an hours worth) that needs to be seriously trimmed. Hopefully it comes together as something cohesive.
I will be back soon with some knitting content. Hope you are all doing well.
Happy November!
I have been obnoxiously busy lately. So I haven’t had a whole lot of time to make things. Especially knitting, or sewing. But I did have a day off a while back and I made some art. Here are a few snap shots of what I got done. It was nice to explore and be creative. Here is hoping I learn to say no, and appreciate more of my time off.
Started working on some art pieces that I am taking more seriously. I am planning, sketching and taking notes. I have a specific vision for how I want each of these pieces to look and coincide. So I have been making several small tests to see how colors work, and different watercolor methods. Taking time on my artwork is not something I am very good at. This has been great practice. Hopefully I can pull it off. It helps that my sewing machine is broken, so when I am not knitting I can’t be distracted, my only option is to paint!
Last week I started painting a few Christmas cards. My plan is to mess around and see if I can print enough to sell. I have a few designs already, all I need are the resources. If I don’t get around to printing, I will be selling the originals. Stay tuned on Instagram @gaquade for more details.
Also, for those of you who celebrate, I hope you are having a wonderful Thanksgiving. And to those of you who don’t celebrate, I hope you are having a fantastic day!
Had a little bit of free time to sit down and make some art. I was hoping for a little lesson from my younger brother on shadows and highlights. I really struggle adding depth to my pieces. Sadly, it will only come with learning technique and being able to practice. My time is short when it comes to hobbies. But it is still a lovely and relaxing few minutes when I get to escape to my notebooks.
Just popping on here real quick. For the next month or so, expect posts to be sporadic. In the process of moving back to the States and I’m a bit out of whack. Once I’m back on my feet hopefully things go better 🤞😁
Started a new series over on my blog called Art Box. Each one will be a different discussion about various arty topics. I am starting out with a brief history of my art background, which is very short indeed. I also touch on getting over a fear of fine art, and how expressing ourselves through art is natural.
You can check it out by going over to the blog.
I believe I mentioned in a previous post that I got sucked into the A Court of Thorns and Roses trio by Sarah J Mass. Such a fun and exciting story, complete with adorable friendship circle and whirl-wind romance <3
WELL, I ended up being so inspired I did a few pieces of “fan art”
The wings are for my favorite character, Cassian. Such a little precious butt-kicking bean. I did not expect to like this piece so much. I kind of want to paint wings all the time now...
I am working on a piece for Nesta as well, but it is proving to be a bit difficult, are you surprised?
The entwined circles are for Elaine and Lucien. Um, spoilers sorta, not really... Just don’t worry about it.
These books really sparked some fun painting ideas. I have a few more I want to make. As well as some pieces from Zelda BOTW.
Ugh, fantasy is the best.
Holla at me if you’re a nutty fan girl sometimes.
