Making Useless Things

Making a complete mess in my mostly empty workspace. After far, far too long, I finally pulled out my Burnside Bibs pattern and got to work. It is not a complicated pattern, but there are a lot of moving parts. Also the instructions are a little bit confusing... look at the photos, read the pattern piece descriptions, and don’t sew your back pockets into one pocket, instead of the two separate pockets it is supposed to be.

Anyone else make this pattern? So far this is turning out way better than I thought it would. They also fit! Which is wonderful, because I never make a muslin, I mean who has time for that? Just need to do some finishing touches today or tomorrow :)

Perkins Cove Pullover by Pam Allen.

Such a fun and simple pattern. This piece just flew off my needles. I couldn’t believe I finished it so quickly. Linen isn’t my favorite fiber, but it is so functional for the summer. I knit this in Mojave by Kelbourne Woolens. I find it is a tad itchy, and as all linen tends to, it stretches out a lot after you wear it a few times. Still, the color is lovely, and it makes for a pretty comfy garment to wear out to a jazz night.

Um, so I cast this top on like a week ago, and I have been so busy knitting it, I haven’t even taken a proper photo of it. This is the only one I have so far. It is a linen yarn and I am following a pattern by Quince and Co. I’m pretty exciting to be making such good progress on a project like this. Probably because this piece takes no thought what so ever. Crazy easy. Which is something I adore.

I have a finished project! It took me like a week to sew the buttons on, because you know, buttons are the hardest part. But here it is my 1970′s vintage skirt. It is a pattern by Simplicity #8019. I really thought that the skirt was going to be way to small, because I had no idea that larger sizes were sold in a separate pattern. The pattern pieces I had only went up to size 14, which made me really nervous since I was between the 14 and 16. It all worked out in the end. The waistband has just enough give that I can tuck in a t-shirt. I just need to fix the gap between the top button and the second. But that can wait until I feel like resewing buttons.

All in all, I am very happy with this! Fabric is a light blue striped linen from JoAnns.

It is finished! Man, why do scarves always take so long? I set out thinking this would be a fast excuse to use up leftover yarn. Instead it took close to three months to get to binding off. Nevertheless the endless toil was worth it! I have a beautiful linen lace scarf, that I am very, very happy with. Someone suggested I should start adding more information to my posts, like yarn and needle size. I think that’s a wonderful idea. I know that most of my posts are not seen in succession, but instead through reblogs. So to help you all out, I will try to add everything at the end of the post. I have finally knitted something that is incredibly comfortable to wear through a tropical summer. I am beyond excited to have this piece finished. I am really starting to enjoy this foray into written patterns. The luck I have had with finished pieces so far is outstanding. The pattern is Zinone by Andi Satterlund, knit with Knit Picks Lindy Chain in Harbor. Congrats to myself for being a huge dork while trying to take pictures. Also congrats to the writer of this pattern, because this is such a wearable and easy piece to knit. So thank you! I love it :)

Zinone progress. Ended up having to double back and knit more rows for the back and the front. I am making gauge in stitches, but not in rows. Which is ok for this piece, but I really wish I spent the time to knit a second swatch and figure out the right needle size. Now I will just have to guess for the shaping on the way down. At least it is easy to try on, and I have a blocking schematic to go off of for size.

Current Projects: Zinone: A linen shirt. Pretty excited about this. I have never made anything summer friendly before. So it will be awesome to get to wear a hand knit item while living in Okinawa :) Random Worsted Weight Yarn: On the flip side, I have some really squishy and lovely yarn (some of it is Madeline Tosh!) I think my plan is a winter hat and some mittens, sort of 1920's inspired, because I have been watching a lot of Downton Abbey 😅

Hi, So it has been a little bit since I posted last. But I haven't gotten up to much knitting. I have mostly been working on these cute little cardigans. I finished and blocked the first one, all it needs is some adorable buttons. Now I am onto the second one. All is going well, aside from a buttonhole mishap... but that is what afterthought buttonholes are for! I really love this pattern, the more I knit it, the more I like it. I can't wait to try out another one by Tikki Knits. I did really struggle with blocking this sweater. Since the yarn is cotton and linen, every time I placed a pin it would pull and look uneven. So I ended up just stretching it all out by hand and laying it flat to dry. It didn't turn out to bad. That's about it. Like I said haven't been up to much. I hope all of you are having a great start to the week!
