Here is a little peek at what I use to sketch/paint.
I got tired of cutting up perfectly good watercolor paper for quick sketches and doodles. Also, prices for watercolor journals are pretty high, and I hate waiting for anything in the mail. So I bound my own journal. It is not the best, but it does the job required. It is perfect for sketching, and practicing slightly larger pieces.
The rest of my work is done on discarded mat board from my work. Yes, mat board, the kind that you use to frame artwork. It doesn’t react like watercolor paper, but for some quick pieces that are most likely going to end up in the trash, it is such a cheap way to practice.
What about you? Do you book bind your own journals? Do you have any unconventional ways of practicing your art?
Day 8: What’s your most challenging project?
These moths. I designed them myself. They only took me a few weeks to make, but the reason I choose them as the most challenging, is that every single time I try to recreate these, or draft a pattern, I am stumped. I have no idea what sort of creative juices were flowing, but I kick myself everyday for not taking notes while making these. I really, really wish I could recreate them. Maybe some day when I find the time, I will master these little bugs.
