New blog post. Life is getting a little bit crazy, but I am still making stuff!
P.s. if you didn’t know I have a blog/website. You can check it out by following either link <3
I have been asking myself this question throughout the last year. As I researched and contemplated, the short and simple answer was this: I want a place to share my work in its entirety, to grow a community, to learn more and challenge myself. But most of all to meet fellow creatives, find collaborators, and make friends.
As my online presence has grown over the years, so has my frustration with being confined to Tumblr or Facebook. I lacked creative control, and I was constantly irritated with the modes of communication. I had a following, I had interest, but connection with my community was always out of reach. I can’t place the blame completely on faulty websites, but on my distant approach in my posts as well.
Starting a real blog was something I always had on the back burner. But I always felt ostentatious, or silly thinking that I should have a “blog”. I was just someone who posts pictures on the internet. As I researched, I learned the wealth of opportunity that surrounds hosting my own website was worth it. Not only for myself to grow as an artist, but also to give back to my friends and followers who are just as passionate about our shared interests.
My first blog was just me posting a few photos of finished objects every now and again to Tumblr.
Just me as a baby knitter. These are a few of the first finished objects I shared online.
I never expected to have the desire to share and continue to share. Yet, here I am today. I didn’t start this blog with the intention of it becoming a job, or as a way to make money. I started because I am looking for a better platform for sharing what I make. As well as having a comfortable space to communicate with anyone who has the same interests.
Yes, I am starting at the very bottom again, I know so little about what it is to have a blog. But I really hope to deepen the quality of my online content. It is no longer about shoving pictures onto a webpage. I ask you to engage and share with me your stories, and your own journeys through knitting and handcrafting. At this time, I am stretching my internet presence, not only to share my journey, but also hopefully to meet more creatives, and bring more crafters together. Afterall, it is the people who surround you that inspire artwork and aspirations.
As one of my New Year goals, I will be attempting to blog and run this website over the next year. Please join me. While I have a lot to learn about blogging and it will be a lot of hard work, I do have some fun things planned. Especially more things that you can get involved in as well.
Currently I plan on having four main blog posts a month. Followed by a bi-weekly update on works in progress and finished objects. I’m also looking forward to hosting a knit-a-long, doing some giveaways, sharing some new patterns, and more.
Thank you for reading. I hope this helps you understand the intention behind this website and what to expect in the future.
