i have a new trendy suffix to introduce. -shed: "the area from which this resource flows to a given point". as in watershed, but the hydrologists are not content to stop there. the best usage i've seen so far is "problemshed", which is roughly "the area causing problems for a given point". very useful concept tbh
it does more harm than good to prop up the myth of the ‘neurotypical’ who completes tasks cheerfully with no issues. this person is a capitalist fantasy. the more you define yourself in comparison to this myth the more you justify social structures staying the same with minor accommodations to the ‘exceptions’ and the continued pathologizing of discomfort under hostile conditions

Not that anyone’s going to care after all this time, but that’s not by de Chirico. This piece was entered into one of the four Migraine Art competitions held between 1980 and 1987 by a member of the public. It was used for comparison as an illustration in a 1988 BMJ article about how de Chirico’s migraines influenced his art, which is where the misattribution seems to have started.

I live right across the street from a little park with some grass, a slide, and swings. It's a nice place to relax and get some fresh air. The neighborhood Hazem Shawish (@hazem-suhail) used to live in had a big park in the middle of it with fountains and walking paths, but it has been reduced to rubble and ash by bombing. Hazem's tragically passed away as a result of malnutrition and illness caused by the siege. Even while grieving Hazem is still working hard, and posting on Tumblr to try to raise money for his family. His brother, Samer, has bipolar disorder and cannot get the treatment and medication he needs. Can you imagine living through so much trauma and destruction, and trying to manage your mental health and survive in the midst of all of that? Now, they are trying to get to Egypt to achieve safety and dignity. When I walk past the little park near my apartment, I think of Hazem and his family and their neighborhood. When I walk past the little grocery store just one block away from me, I am thinking of Hazem's family's grocery store, which was destroyed. One day I hope this will all be rebuilt, and the fountains will flow again, and the grocery story will again sell fruit and snacks. In the meantime I donated to Hazem to try to share a little bit of the peace and security that are available to me and give back to him some of what he has lost. I was a scrawny baby but I was born with a full head of hair! I think chubby smiley baby cheeks are so cute, though! 🥰. Mohammed Ayyad's (@mohammedayyads-blog) children are beautiful, sweet little kids, but sadly they have lost their smiles and soft faces due to hunger, thirst, and fear in Khan Younis where they have gone after being displaced first from their home and then from Rafah. When life is so hard and dangerous as it is right now for Mohammed's family even a little bit of relief can make the difference to be strong enough for another day. So you don't need to worry that your help isn't enough, and you don't need to have lots of money, as I know times are hard for many. I am mohammed ayyad of Gazans, living in very difficult conditions because of the war that the Gaza Strip is under. Since the outbreak of the war on the seventh of October we have been evacuating .
Then the journey of suffering and separation began,because my children were separated and evacuated from our home without covering or clothes., From here they became infected with diseases, and what increased our fatigue was the constant upbringing due to the different areas in which we were displaced, as we were displaced 9 times, and this was very expensive, the last of which was the 9th of this August from Hamad Town. In addition to that, we have lived in the summer season in a tent that did not exceed three meters, closed with nylon, so it is like an agricultural greenhouse atmosphere. It is very hot. All in all, we live difficult days that no human beings can afford
We have no work because of the war, and we do not have any kind of money and this is accompanied by a crazy and horrible rise in prices.
Although water is not suitable for drinking, this is the cause of many diseases
The last suffering is that we are out of Hamad without taking our purposes or our tents and now we are searching the earth in the roads and our children and our elderly parents are suffering..So we use direct donation including what they can or share links fully so people can know our tragedy and pain. There is a baseline transmedicalism in framing transition as a purely medical process. “transition” is synonymous with medically transitioning, with taking hormones and having “corrective” surgery. This is a framing that largely comes from cissexual doctors and psychologists, but it has also been taken up in mainstream trans discourse by many trans people. It reduces the concept of “changing sex” to a medical procedure, and as a result, reaffirms the idea of sex as a purely biological category. It doesn’t account for the fact that you are also administratively and socially trans-sexual - some of the most intensely transgender moments in my life have been signing forms to change my name with yet another governmental department, with sending human rights complaints to my phone company because they refused to accept my name change documentation, with booking an appointment with a lawyer to notarise an application to change my sex marker on my birth certificate, with emailing my employer for the fourth time to PLEASE change my name in their internal emailing system. Administrative transition isn’t just simply updating a record here or there, you are comprehensively, administratively altering your position within the family, within marriage, within insurance claims, within census data, within the state itself. To use a phrase by Stryker & Sullivan, you are petitioning the king to correct the record of your own life. There’s nothing biological about that
and yes, these administrative and social transitions are often legitimatised through medical transition - you frequently need a psychiatric diagnosis to “prove” you need to change your sex marker, you need a doctor to affirm you’ve been on hormones for X number of months in order to get a replacement government ID or get put on a surgery waiting list. I had to have a specific surgery so I could fit into men’s clothing. Medical transition allows you to move through cis social spaces while being recognised as your gender. And also like, medical transition feels good! I love taking testosterone, I’m happy with my top surgery scars. I like being treated like a man by other people & medical transition has helped me achieve that. But there’s nothing inherently biological about this arrangement - the authority of the doctor and psychiatrist is what gets you legitimacy. I didn’t have to send pics of my top surgery to the federal government to change my ID, I needed the signature of a doctor. And this updated ID means my landlord and employer and bank and phone company and the cashier selling me alcohol all gender me correctly. No biology involved here!
