Sherburne's 17th century translation of Astronomica, a poem in five books written by 1st century AD Roman astrologer and poet Marcus Manilius. The astrological systems of houses, linking human affairs with the circuit of the zodiac, have evolved over the centuries, but they make their first appearance in the Astronomicon of Manilius.
