Disney has recently eschewed San Diego Comic-Con in favor of its own D23 Expo, but with D23 taking a year off, Pixar still showed up at Comic-Con this year. Rather than showcasing its 2015 films, the studio pushed its 2014 holiday special, Toy Story That Time Forgot. Attendees received the gorgeous poster above by Hellboy artist Mike Mignola featuring Reptillius Maximus, a new character voiced by Kevin McKidd.
This is just classic Pixar here...take an object that's rarely personified and give it a mouth, two windows to the soul and a song to sing and BAM! It's magic. Lava looks like another amazing short that will no doubt have more emotional impact than all the other non-Pixar animated features released next year. Combined. (Yes, I have very high expectations for Pixar Shorts and have since Geri's Game blew my mind so many years ago.)
Pixarian James Ford Murphy took the stage at a special Inside Out preview event to introduce his directorial debut: Lava, the previously-rumored 2015 short that will play before Inside Out. The official synopsis reads: "Inspired by the isolated beauty of tropical islands and the explosive allure of ocean volcanoes, Lava is a musical love story that takes place over millions of years." Can't wait!!!!
