Some autistic allura headcanons (because I love projecting)
-her hair is a big stim!! The texture, the weight on her shoulders, having it brushed– all good. She tugs at the ends of it sometimes when she’s nervous.
-her short term memory is absolutely terrible. Hunk asks her to grab him something from his room and halfway there she’s already forgotten what he wanted
-executive dysfunction. it’s a known fact that she never signs any important documents until the very last second because she just CAN’T bring herself to Do It
-stims subconsciously, all the time.
lance: hey princess, are you okay? You’ve been rocking back and forth on your feet for like an hour now
allura: I’ve been doing what?
-she and Keith bond over being nd since he’s also autistic and has ADHD! They help each other out with sensory stuff, mostly, and talk about how weird social rules can be.
Keith, an autistic who makes too much eye contact: it should really be socially acceptable to stare unblinkingly at people during conversation, like a lizard
Allura, an autistic who’s never made eye contact in her life: valid. I think I should be able to talk to people without looking at them, at all
-she scripts almost all her conversations, really. The reason she’s so good at diplomacy is because she plans every word she says beforehand. It works pretty well, until she’s put on the spot and her brain short circuits
-routine? routine. her schedule for each day is very exact, and anyone who messes with it faces her FULL wrath
-speaking of, she doesn’t react well to change at all. she was that kid who wouldn’t have their stuffed animal taken away from them even if it was just to be washed, except she never really grew out of it.
-echolalia!!! She repeats lots of phrases she thinks are neat, and sometimes she’ll mimic the mice’s chirping noises right back at them!
-super attentive to the small details. Case in point: mentioning lance’s weird looking ears before addressing the fact that he’s an intruder from another planet
-overstimulation is THE bane of her existence. she especially hates loud noises, they’re a one-way ticket to a meltdown
-gets extremely confused and upset when people don’t Follow The Rules + she always makes a point to always stick to the social norms she understands, like being polite (diplomacy!) and keeping people’s trust
-when it comes to matters like fighting the enemy, she’s all business and gets really, really annoyed if the others aren’t on task or are getting distracted
-spends so much time worrying about sticking to social conventions that she forgets to loosen up sometimes. Case in point: her “princess” persona that she keeps up at most times, like in her vlog!
-she forgets her ideas as soon as she thinks them up and it frustrates her to no end. Her thoughts always flash at lightening speed, all the time.
-she has NO spatial awareness, and trips over her own feet often enough to embarrass herself
-absolutely doesn’t Get metaphors

-little known fact: she’s as impulsive as Keith is, but with her words instead of her actions. She basically has no filter and it’s lead to some…..awkward situations with foreign aliens
-she loves earthen culture and history! It’s a huge special interest of hers and she infodumps about it to anyone who’ll listen.
