A pocket altar I finished today! It has a pendulum (with positive messages from my parents Inside it) and board, a pronoun pin , incense matches and a thing to burn them on, mini tarot cards I made, a fake tea light, moon water with salt in it, an agate ring, a dime to act as silver, quartz, rose quartz, purple aura quartz, citrine, and tigers eye.
Mobile Witch Kit
This is what I’ve been working on the past week or so! Now if you saw the original concept sketches you’ll notice some differences, like the insert, no longer a tray with compartments. The bones of it are still there, pretty well realized if I may say so.
Antique brass astrology knobs and the hand woven rope handle make it easier to transport.
*The handle can be unwoven relatively easily as it is one extremely long piece of burlap twine.*
The inner lid details are still being worked out, if that’s a removable wooden spirit board, or pockets/loops for a mini book of shadows (copying some of my most used stuff and info and leaving room for new stuff) pen, pencil, knife and other tools, haven’t decided.
Black working ritual cloth and chalkboard painted wooden box make up the first layer. The chalkboard box can be used as pendulum board, mini spirit board, altar whatever you can draw on it.
Contents, top to bottom, left to right:
- Bone salt chalk
- Poison Oak Berries
- Datura Stramonium seeds
- Hex powder
- Rose thorns
- Asafoetida
- Lavender
- Burlap twine
- Amethyst, garnet, onyx, citrine, tigers eye crystal shards
Bottom level has the vial insert, painted gold.
And now the big reveal…all the stuff I crammed in there.
Candles, honey, oil blend, black salt, chilis, witch hazel, hawthorn berries, agua Florida in spray bottle.
Flying ointment, paper charms in every color, wild white sage, patchouli, cardamom, balm of gilead, eggshell powder, charcoal disks, myrrh incense.
Ophidia Rosa Tarot deck, damiana, cloves, valerian, frankincense, matches.
Pocket Altar
I’m traveling for the new year so here’s the pocket altar I made.
Mini Altar/ Witch Kit
I know plenty of people have made these and this isn’t my original idea. but I made a mini altar/ witch kit for taking on the go and figured I’d share how I made mine in case others want to use it for inspiration.
The box I use is a small wooden treasure chest I got from the craft store and painted with acrylic paint. You can choose whatever type and size of box and decorate it how you want.
For the contents in mine I included
- 2 tea lights
- 2 bottle caps (to use as offering dishes or to hold herbs or whatever)
- A mini glass jar with a cork
- A few salt packets
- Some herbs in packets I made from straws (you can find tutorials on this)
- 2 black pieces of string
- 2 tooth picks
- A few small crystals- Hematite, Snowflake Obsidian, Amethyst, Rose Quartz, and a Quartz point.
- I also plan to add a small altar cloth but haven’t made it yet
Feel free to use this as inspiration for your own little witch kits or portable altars, and you can switch things out and customize it however you want.
My glasses case travel altar. I have lots empty glasses cases floating around my house thought I should put one to good use.
um a damn good idea? I have so many empty cases I don’t use I’m gonna start doing this!
My Witch Kit
I’ve made a little witch kit, and it’s a lot easier than I thought it’d be
I just grabbed a little box that some jewelry my grandma got me came it (my hand for size ref)
Look at that!
First, I’ve got my herbs and stuff. I just bought these little guys from the dollar store and filled ‘em with herbs I found around the house
I’ve got a little tea light tin thingy for a makeshift bowl, some pennies,
a couple fake flowers for Persephone since I can’t get any real ones, a little bell that’s also for hades,
and a little locket I transformed into this mess. I really need to redo it but I’ve been a little lazy.
But that’s it! These are all things I either had around the house or bought cheap at the dollar store. I was keeping this inside a glasses case, but I decided to move it so I could fit a little more inside <3
I’ve been meaning to make some kind of portable altar for a while, figuring I’d just put together some kind of tiny kit for travel or something. Then I was like HEY WAIT, I COULD JUST DRAW ONE IN MY GRIMOIRE, and voila :D
This is really clever!
Say Hello to my quickly built travel altar for my vacation this week. Right now the only thing on the outside is a piece of sand paper, it will be decorated later, for now it needs to look inconspicuous around the fam. It’s main intent is safe travel and anti anxiety. I turned my pendulum board into a sticker that fits right in the lid so I have a div tool. Fits my pendulum, a piece of labradorite, a home made beeswax lavender candle, Himalayan pink salt with a splash of anti anxiety intent and lavender essential oil, cleansed sea salt, three sticks of violet and rose incense, lavender and lilac incense cone, strike anywhere matches, a make shift cork incense holder. I will be adding some lavender flower, the travel safety sigil made by @wolf-scent and an altar cloth. Anyone have other suggestions of tiny things I can cram in?
Tiny water witch travel altar with
- Scallop Shell
- Light Blue Tea Candle
- Matches
- 2 Dark Blue Birthday Candles
- Salt
- Sand
- Glass “Pearl”
- Empy Tea Bag for a tiny sachet
A clearer photo of my pocket altar. I added some more to it and I am fairly confident that it’s finished. My pocket altar includes: - jar of protection salt - jar of dried lavender - jar of Flying Devil oil - tealight candle - white sage incense cone - matches wrapped in enough hemp twine for knot magic - match striker - clear quartz point - small piece of black tourmaline - sprig of wormwood - wooden yes/no coin - banishment talisman/sigil to banish negative spirits ward off black magic I am hoping I can get or make a little altar cloth to put in there too, which will double as a bit of padding for the contents so no damage comes to the little glass jars.
According to Cass: Mini Witch Kits & Travel Altars
WHAT ARE MINI WITCH KITS/TRAVEL ALTARS?
A mini witch kit or travel altar is exactly what it sounds like. It is a collection of small supplies put into a small container for the purpose of carrying them around, or easy hiding and storage.
WHAT DO YOU USE THEM FOR?
As a secret witch, I use it instead of a large altar to do spell work in. It’s easily hidden and most of the time I just carry it around with me to classes. Lots of witches choose to use a mini witch kit to go away with them on holiday, others may use a travel kit in a dorm if they don’t have much space. Some witches want something to carry around with them for on the go spellwork.
At this point, you’re probably asking well why not a big altar? The answers are as varied as the witches who use them. I like a mini kit to carry with me, Sam likes one so they don’t purchase as many things, Ripple keeps one because he’s in a dorm and has no space, and the answers are endless. Mini altars can be used for so many things, nearly everyone has a use for one even if it’s just a pad of paper and a pen.
WHAT DO YOU STORE THEM IN?
Mini doesn’t mean super tiny. I keep my altar in an Altoids tin, it’s packed but it serves my purpose. Other witches use shoe boxes which are a bit less conspicuous or decorative boxes, I’ve even seen picnic baskets as a mini altar! You aren’t limited to boxes though, you can keep them in a makeup pouch, or a jar, or even a spare pencil case.
WHAT DO YOU PUT IN ONE?
Honestly, the options are ENDLESS. I don’t like liquids because I’m scared they will spill but here’s a quick list. In your mini altar you can include: crystals, herbs, vials of things, mini spell bottles, powders(properly sealed of course), bells, feathers, sigils, tea lights/candles, birthday candles, tea bags, matches, mini besoms/brooms, sticks, paper, pens, pendulums, pendulum boards, mini ouija boards and planchette, coins, jewelry, pocket knife, scissors, salt, journals, essential oils, castanets, keys, mini wands, runes, small bones, ribbon, dice, mini tarot cards, thread, items to represent the elements, and items to represent your deities.
WHAT SHOULD YOU NOT INCLUDE?
Now we get to the fun part if you’re including things like bones, and feathers, and previously animal bits, please make sure you have obtained these legally. It is illegal in some areas to possess certain bones and certain feathers. Please make sure your herbs and organic materials are dried properly, they will rot and they will stink. On that note, please take care that light and heat sensitive items are stored properly (I’m looking at you, matches.) If you include a knife, be sure you are of proper age and are legally carrying it in your area.
WHAT IS IN YOURS?
In my lil’ altar I have:
- Some small pieces of paper - for sigils or paper crafting/origami magic
- White yarn - for knot magic
- Thread in a few colors - for color correspondences in knot magic, and tying to candles for color correspondences
- Matches - for the candle
- Salt - for cleansing (and salting fries)
- A jar of lavender buds
- A school productivity spell jar (tutorial coming soon)
- Candle - for candle magic
- Striker - for matches
- Clear Quartz - for cleansing, and channeling energy

Witch tip #1
If you’re using birthday candles and have trouble finding a candle holder small enough for them to fit you can use paper clips to make one.
It’s also super practical for traveling witchy kits!
Just redid my travel alter to be better than ever! I took an old DS and Altoid case to put it all together. Bonus points that It’s magnetic so it won’t fall out. Inside is an alter cloth with all sorts of circles to help channel with, matches (to represent fire and light candles) , 7 candles (3 white, 3 black, 1 green), a piece of chalk, sun water, two bells, amethyst, an acorn (earth), a shell (water), two tape laminated feathers and last of all my pendulum. Also made little straw packets for black salt and egg shell so whoop whoop!
