It’s really, really important to me that Hestia, the goddess of domesticity and the right ordering of families and homes, never married or had a “conventional” family life, even for the time in which the myths about her were written.
It's been years since I logged in, but I might be back? During this time, I...
- got a second master's degree.
- started writing tabletop rpgs.
- came out as nonbinary.
- got diagnosed with adhd.
- became a librarian.
- missed this space a lot.
Things sure look different here!

You worship Artemis? What a joke. You do know in actual stories involving her she accepted men who felt they should have been women? You’re terf beliefs spit in her face and she does not smile upon you. Why are terf ‘witches’ always so willingly ignorant of their deities?
No Artemis did not, the idea that a male could ‘feel like a woman’ is a modern concept that is entirely human and not worthy of her. The fact that you somehow think that the goddess of midwives, of childbirth, of girl children would somehow not know the difference between male and female is incredibly disrespectful. Artemis has always been a goddess who cared for FEMALE people. Males are not under her care, protection or even attention. Your ignorance is astounding. The Mistress of Beasts is beyond the trival human affairs of your gender feelings. To think that she would be so ignorant as to somehow not be aware of biology indicates that you have no knowledge nor respect for her. And frankly I find you and your attempts to pin modern concepts onto a goddess as ancient and powerful as Artemis to be incredibly annoying. The idea that she would ever tolerate a male in her presence is a modern idea designed to weaken her, and it is not a concept that will be tolerated in this space. I am her devotee and I keep this blog I dedicated to her true to the goddess in all her power.
I mean, Artemis was literally the patron of hunters and most hunters tended to be male, so ….
Here’s some more quotes!
Philostratus the Elder, Imagines 1. 28 (trans. Fairbanks) (Greek rhetorician C3rd A.D.) : “[From a description of a painting depicting hunters :] Hunters as they advance will hymn Artemis Agrotera (Goddess of the Hunt); for yonder is a temple to her, and a statue worn smooth with age, and heads of boars and bears; and wild animals sacred to her graze there, fawns and wolves and hares, all tame and without fear of man. After a prayer the hunters continue the hunt.”
Philostratus, Life of Apollonius of Tyana 6. 20 (trans. Conybeare) (Greek biography C1st to 2nd A.D.) : “[The Egyptian sage Thespesion] put some questions to Apollonios [of Tyana, pagan prophet C1st A.D.], about the scourging in Sparta, and asked if the Lakonians were smitten with rods in public. ‘Yes,’ answered the other, ‘as hard, O Thespesion, as men can smite them; and it is especially men of noble and distinguished birth among them that are so treated … The custom of scourging is a ceremony in honour of Artemis Skythia, so they say, and was prescribed by oracles, and to oppose the regulations of the gods is in my opinion utter madness … It is not the scourging but the sprinkling of the altar with human blood that is important, for the Skythoi too held the altar to be worthy thereof; but the Lakedaimonians modified the ceremony of [human] sacrifice because of its implacable cruelty, and turned it into a contest of endurance, undergone without any loss of life, and yet securing to the goddess as first fruits an offering of their own blood.’ ‘Why then,’ said the other, ‘do they not sacrifice strangers right out to Artemis, as the Skythoi formerly considered right to do?’ ‘Because,’ he answered, ‘it is not congenial to any of the Greeks to adopt in their full rigour the manners and customs of barbarians.’”
There’s several pages here full of historical documents and lore you can read: https://www.theoi.com/Cult/ArtemisCult.html
Ultimately, Artemis was worshiped by both men and women in ancient Greece, and to be honest it’s far more disingenuous and insulting to try and erase history fit a pretty little packaged, romanticized idea of Artemis than it is to face historical reality.
Never mind that the gods rarely care about gender roles (unless there was a specific cult function calling for a gender role).
And yes, there is a myth fragment out there of Artemis turning a young boy into a girl after he accidentally spots her naked (Siproites) while bathing, because there was always a consequence for that.
I also noticed a quote where she takes the time to teach a man how to hunt. That’s not something I would expect from a goddess who supposedly has no time for men.
Your friendly periodic reminder that TERFs are trash!
“ The idea that she would ever tolerate a male in her presence is a modern idea designed to weaken her “
guess terfs never read about Apollo or Orion then

When people call you a “snowflake” just remember they’re quoting Fight Club, a satire written by a gay man about how male fragility causes men to destroy themselves, resent society, and become radicalized, and that Tyler Durden isn’t the hero but a personification of the main character’s mental illness, and that his “snowflake” speech is a dig at how fascists use dehumanizing language to breed loyalty from insecure people.
So basically people who say “snowflake” as an insult are quoting a domestic terrorist who blows up skyscrapers because he’s insecure about how good he is in bed.
i love coming home at the end of the day and untying the ribbon around my neck that holds my head on
