‘A spotted flycatcher pair nesting in the palm of a statue’ (by Zsolt Semperger, original post here)
She has 10 eggs omg how did her little body make so many eggs I’m going to cry
Her bird husband keeps bringing her little green worms to eat and every time she hears him outside she does these happy little chirps ahhhhh
UPDATE: all ten eggs have hatched :)
UPDATE:
All ten babies are getting ready to fledge!!!
Definitely one of the Top Images of all time I gotta say
As someone who has been following the Cal Falcons all season, this has been one heck of a story. The TL;DR is that Grinnell, the longtime mate of Annie, the female, died after the second egg was laid, but a new male, Alden, stepped in and became Annie’s mate, and they had a third egg. Only two of the eggs hatched--the Cal Falcons team believes that it was the second egg that did not hatch, meaning that Alden is most likely raising his chick, plus one of Grinnell’s (they’ll confirm it with DNA testing later).
Alden is believed to be much younger and inexperienced than Grinnell and Annie and... it shows.
..He is trying so hard to Dad.
A for effort, Alden.

My friend took the best screenshot ever from the cal falcon nest cam
[embedded image: Bed of gravel, with two falcon eggs and a falcon chick in the middle. The head of an adult falcon is in the lower right-hand side of the image. The adult and chick are both looking into the camera; the chick is squinting.]

Stolen Treasure
Another valuable piece added to the dragon hoard! I thought it would be nice if Pondhopper got some friends as well, since Swordfish has his frog hoard.
When you're a child, you hear things like, "electric eels exist" and you think, "sure, that's just as new and weird as everything else."
As an adult, it's important to revisit such knowledge and think, "oh, wait, this world is absolutely bananas."
i think its time to point out again that no one knows how eels reproduce
Unfortunately, we do know how electric eels reproduce. This is not because we know anything about eel reproduction, but because electric “eels” are actually knifefish, not eels.
I say unfortunately because the males of the species literally form a nest out of their own spit bubbles into which the females deposit up to 3000 tiny eggs that then hatch lodged in this saliva pile
So they nest the same way bettas do?
“Electric knifefish” sounds so badass. I get why we still call them eels (inertia), but “electric knifefish”!
this bird is fucking sewing
I knew birds were smart, but I’ve gotta say, this was not a part of Cinderella that I ever would’ve expected to find out was legit.

can anyone explain why my pigeon husband glitches when I give him a stick
If you ever find bald-faced hornets building a nest on your property, here are some things to consider before you get rid of them (assuming you don’t have a fatal bee allergy or anything) :
- They’re great pollinators as well as key predators, highly beneficial to the environment all around.
- They’re known for being very relaxed and easy to get along with, as long as you give the nest even a few feet of personal space.
- They aren’t generally curious about you or your food and drinks like smaller yellowjackets are and tend to mind their own business.
- By winter, they all permanently abandon the nest never to use it again and THAT NEST IS AN EXTREMELY SOUGHT AFTER NATURAL COLLECTOR’S ITEM YOU CAN SELL FOR A HUNDRED BUCKS OR MORE ON EBAY OR ETSY YOU FOOL JUST LET THE GALS BUILD YOU A HUNDRED BUCKS
Everything about this post is perfect. Because growing up is for losers.
