A fanblog of the movie Strange Magic, and whatever else catches my attention. A surprising amount of Trollhunters stuff now, too.

🌸: draw Barbara with flowers that match their personality?

Oh boy, it’s been months.

sooo let me dig up my notes:

Moss: maternal love (doesn’t really require explanation)

Yellow Chrysanthemum: slighted love (in reference to JL Sr, and the whole Strickler thing)

Chamomile: energy in adversity (ability to pick yourself up again and again and keep going)

Aloe: healing (her calling)

White hyacinth: prayers for someone (life is hard when your son in trollhunting… half-troll)

Garlic: courage, strenght

Fern: Sincerity

Photo shoot with my darling Kaya (styled by me) for my “Reflower Yourself” series. Here’s what reflowering means to them:

“Reflowering for me means reclaiming the feeling of being beautiful despite often  feeling incorrect in my own body and in the world. As a non binary trans person and especially one who has not “medically transitioned” I get misgendered and read as a woman what feels like 90 percent of the time. When I was a kid I never identified as girl until I was forced to. Reflowering for me means returning to what I know to be true about myself, returning to that non binary, tomboy, little boy of a kid that felt perfect in the world. Untainted, unspoiled, not ruined, not forced to fit in anywhere, completely unaware of how the world reads me as one way when I feel another. On a daily basis I essentially feel deflowered by a world that sees me as woman because I don’t fit completely into a masculine gender binary. When I’m reflowered I imagine everyone seeing me how I want to be seen. Not too much of one thing and not enough of another, just perfect.”

“MOTHER WHY HASN’T THE DUKE CALLED AGAIN?”

Someone painted this.

Someone out there sat down and said that they were going to paint this.

Somebody planned this out and then did it.

What a time to be alive.

I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS FUCKING THING FOR MONTHS

Friendly reminder that violets signify lesbians. This is a queer raptor.

“MOTHER WHY HASN’T THE DUCHESS CALLED AGAIN?”

your skin is lovingly decorated with pictures of flowers, the favorite flowers of everyone you hold closest to you, and one day you found yourself explaining each one and its floral language meanings to a very attentive girl sitting in a tree. at the time you'd thought she was just an average Manic Pixie Dream Girl, but after you started receiving flowers that symbolize love and lust, that never seem to wilt or decay, you're now starting to think you may have accidentally seduced a dryad.

There are two flowers in Strange Magic that elicit a fear response

The Venus flytraps, for obvious reasons ...

And the primroses, for cultural reasons in the context of the movie. (They’re used to make love potions, which are illegal, therefore it’s dangerous to be caught with a primrose unless you’re destroying it.) (Also they grow along the closed border of the two kingdoms, and one character has traumatic flashbacks based on an accidental crossing of the border nearly getting them killed early on in the film, making those flowers a trigger for that character, but that’s not relevant to this specific post.)

Both are flowers that can consume people. (Metaphorically, in the case of the primroses, via the love potion altering the victim’s personality.)

Types of Girls: flower edition

Daisy girls: naturally beautiful, childlike but wise, loves dancing, languages and pastels, top of the class, secretly wants to be a mermaid

Rose girls: falls in love easily, obsessed with glitter and sunsets, dreams of foreign cities, always rosy cheeked, sensitive, can be hard to talk to

Sunflower girls: rays of sunshine, always knows how to make you smile, secretly insecure, sad a lot, sweet tooth, procrastinates a lot, best fashion sense

Hydrangea girls: confident, good at sports, has an aesthetic bedroom, listens to 80s music, likes conspiracy theories, can be stubborn

Violet girls: likes fairy lights, daydreams too much, secretly rebellious, acts tough but is soft, wants to dye their hair, loves their friends more than anything

I’m a mix of hydrangea, sunflower and violet tbh??? Well, minus the sports thing lol. But mostly violet

I’m like. Major violet lol. Ultraviolet, if you will.
