Senegalese musician Sallilou on the Cas Cas, also known as Kashaka, which is an instrument made by connecting two small, bean-filled gourds with a string. [x]

I can barely keep a 4/4 beat, polyrhythms are insane! This is so lovely.

The most beautiful thing I have  heard all day and you have the opportunity to hear it too.

One of my faves that was lost to the internet is back

does anyone know the name of this instrument and possibly the source of this video?

it’s a hang drum :)

Everytime I see this I reblog.

Young man came from hunting faint, tired and weary
What does ail my lord, my dearie?
Oh, brother dear, let my bed be made
For I feel the gripe of the woody nightshade
Men need a man would die as soon
Out of the light of a mage’s moon
‘Twas not by bolt, but yet by blade
Can break the magic that the devil made
‘Twas not by fire, but was forged in flame
That can drown the sorrows of a huntsman’s pain
This young man he died fair soon
By the light of the hunters’ moon
‘Twas not by bolt, nor yet by blade of the berries of the woody nightshade
Oh father dear lie here be safe
From the path that the devil made

Jolene (33 R.P.M) - click for .mp3

Unsure where this came from, if not the palsied hands of the good Lord himself.

Simple premise: Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” slipped from 45 to 33 rpm. Nothing more; no studio trickery, no trip hop drum breaks. The guitar lopes back in and around itself. The bass becomes elastic, hot rubber. The violin stabs become sustained cello lines. The backing choir’s split harmony rattles around, slinking ghostly into the corner.  And most importantly, Parton’s once-frantic vocal is transformed from bubblegum country scrawl into something approximating field holler reverence.

An already perfect song made transcendental..

Who would win in a battle for my immortal soul: the devil on his fiddle or “Jolene” at 33 RPM

Tolkien reads his poem, “Namárië”.

Ai! laurië lantar lassi súrinen, yéni únótimë ve rámar aldaron! Yéni ve lintë yuldar avánier mi oromardi lissë-miruvóreva Andúnë pella, Vardo tellumar nu luini yassen tintilar i eleni ómaryo airetári-lírinen. Sí man i yulma nin enquantuva? An sí Tintallë Varda Oiolossëo ve fanyar máryat Elentári ortanë ar ilyë tier undulávë lumbulë; ar sindanóriello caita mornië i falmalinnar imbë met, ar hísië untúpa Calaciryo míri oialë. Sí vanwa ná, Rómello vanwa, Valimar! Namárië! Nai hiruvalyë Valimar. Nai elyë hiruva. Namárië!

Ah! like gold fall the leaves in the wind, long years numberless as the wings of trees! The long years have passed like swift draughts of the sweet mead in lofty halls beyond the West, beneath the blue vaults of Varda wherein the stars tremble in the song of her voice, holy and queenly.

Who now shall refill the cup for me?

For now the Kindler, Varda, the Queen of the Stars, from Mount Everwhite has uplifted her hands like clouds, and all paths are drowned deep in shadow; and out of a grey country darkness lies on the foaming waves between us, and mist covers the jewels of Calacirya for ever. Now lost, lost to those from the East is Valimar!

Farewell! Maybe thou shalt find Valimar. Maybe even thou shalt find it. Farewell!

This is truly amazing. To hear Elvish the way it was supposed to be spoken. Absolutely beautiful.

So yesterday my grandparents found a big box of old 78s that they’ve had in an attic for years, and wanted me to transfer them to CDs. Most were in pretty great shape, no cracks and few scratches. Lots of 1930s sweet/hot jazz, British big band & swing and a few Decca classical ones. This one had its label peeled/scratched off on the a side, on the reverse was a Parlophone march.

90% sure by playing it it’s unleashed some kind of 70 year old curse.

Oh my god  D:

here’s a bad idea: listening to this in the dark by yourself

I heard that some records made during the 30s had laughter on them because they believed that listening to laughter would make others laugh along.

My God, they were wrong.

i just scared the fuck out of myself

Play this outside your house on halloween.

JESUS SHIT THE BED NOPE NOPE NOPE

tumblr in 2017: “cursed post”

this ancient and forgotten horror, an abomination scratching at the walls of time itself, forbidden by the laws of gods and men, unearthed and resurrected from the archive of my blog in late 2013: “hold. my. fucking. beer.”
