HOW ppl r reading the martells and getting ~*vaguely hispanic*~ is blowing my mind. 

it doesnt even FEEL mayan or taino and if it did it would’ve been better to see indigenous actors get the roles.

how GRMM and D&D and HBO gonna gaslight the fuck out the fans saying that the martells arent white and then have pedro in interviews saying otherwise?

when i think of all the shitty things ppl would submit in to FPC’s askbox, in to the asbox’s of fellow fans who felt the same way we did. when i think of all the articles ppl wrote calling us bad fans and belittling our stance. when i think about the backlash we endured for MONTHS and the tears shed because of it.

ppl not understanding the privilege pedro has to play both white and non-white characters in hollywood. ppl not understanding that by not course correcting GRRM’s ignorance game of thrones has essentially presented the media with yet ANOTHER racist ass trope of POC. ppl ignoring the antiblackness and very real colorism issue of game of thrones’ inability to humanize any character darker than beige.

i feel shackled to this show for all the wrong reasons.

Vaguely “Hispanic” how? Do they mean “vaguely” Spanish? Or Latino? There are many elements in Dorne and House Martell that are blatantly Arab and African-influenced. 

We know Spanish people aren’t people of colour (unless they’re mixed with poc), but many Latinos are; so what they mean by Hispanic is that House Martell = Spanish-speaking people of colour. Months ago, we were shot down and basically told they couldn’t be people of colour because they were more “Southern Mediterranean” aka white people.

And now, this opens another can of worms entirely.

There was a lot of insistence that the Martells “aren’t black, no never black,” but there are certainly black Latinos. If they were going to make them “vaguely Hispanic” from the jump, there’s still absolutely no reason Oberyn couldn’t have been played by some other talented underrepresented brown-skinned Latino actor. Are we just going to pretend that Hispanic is a race and only people who a certain skin tone get to claim that heritage?

This is hilarious and by hilarious I mean that we called this months ago while we were being gaslighted and fans of colour were being harassed by the racists in this fandom.
