Made a time-lapse of one of my little friends pupating.
I saved this teddybear bee from being et by a dog. He thanked me by giving me the stinkeye
Apropos of nothing, here's some nice damselfly pics I took
Finally got around to glazing the boys 🪲
This isn't craft related, I just think I take pretty nice bug pics and wanted y'all to see
Engaged in some rehabeelatation this afternoon. Found a struggling bee and made a little drinking place until it was good to go. Remember your six-legged friends this summer!

I found this on a walk and it is the biggest freaking ant I've ever seen. It's probably not native, but other than that I've got no idea. Thoughts?
I'm terrible at IDing ants, but it looks like a carpenter ant to me. They can be quite large. And there are definitely native carpenter ant species in your area!
Cool! Will deffo keep an eye out on future walks, maybe I'll get a better picture lol
Heyyy, everyone loves close-up pictures of bugs, right? Cool, cool, you're getting some.
I’m planning on raising hornworms to adulthood this year!
To anyone who raises/raised Manduca sexta - what sort of substrate did you use for them to pupate in? I have a ton of coconut fiber on hand so I’m hoping that will work.
Any other tips from anyone who’s successfully raised them are also welcome!
I literally just took soil from my garden, and it worked just fine. Really, more than having the "proper" substrate, the importance was depth. The very first tomato hornworm I raised was in too thin of a dirt layer and it wound up chiseling a hole in the plaster of my insect house before I wised up, lol. They need to dig dig down to pupae, after that its just a matter of letting them rest undisturbed for a number of months.
This little ichneumon wasp flew in because I left the door open . Look at the size of that stinger!
The long ovipositors on wasps like ichneumons are not designed to sting! Just for laying eggs in whatever host they use. Although some of the ones with shorter ovipositors can still sting, they’re not very aggressive. Cute lil pal though! I love them.
They posted my submission! *swoon*
